Well. Today's newly reported confirmed deaths the same as yesterday's. Today's newly confirmed cases (1,699) are over fifty percent higher than yesterday. Hospitalizations are up slightly. The seven-day averages for cases is actually lower than it was yesterday, but those for deaths, hospitalizations and percent-positive are all up. The state's city/town data shows an overall uptick in cases statewide and in my town in particular.
The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention have released new community level numbers nationwide; they're not pretty either at a national level or for Massachusetts in particular. The 667 counties nationwide with High community level (meaning the CDC recommends indoor masking for everyone to protect the hospitals) are only 20.73% of the counties nationwide but contain 31.93% of the population; the 1,325 counties nationwide with Low community level ("don't worry, be happy!" per the CDC) make up 41.17% of the counties but only 26.32% of the population. For Massachusetts, the "Middlesex, MA - Suffolk (Boston), MA" Health Service Area has climbed back above ten hospitalizations per week per 100k population; that's driven Barnstable, Middlesex, Nantucket, Norfolk, Plymouth and Suffolk Counties up to Medium risk and Dukes County (aka Martha's Vineyard) up to High risk.
