Deaths down compared to yesterday, which hopefully was a statistical fluke more than the harbinger of the future. Cases up a lot, to 1,915; that's the worst single-day report since June 10. Hospitalizations are down a tad. The seven-day averages for cases, hospitalizations and percent-positive are all up compared to yesterday, as well as compared to last week.

The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention have updated their COVID Community Level page with today's numbers. It's bad enough that less than half the counties in the US have "Low" levels (1,452 out of 3,221, or 45%); those counties contain less than 31% of the total population. Nearly a third of the population lives in the 627 counties with High levels, and the remaining 36% of the population are in Medium counties. Massachusetts is in (relatively) good shape, with only Dukes and Nantucket counties at Medium level and the remaining twelve at Low. On the other hand, all of Massachusetts (and nearly the entire country) has High levels of community transmission, which is what the CDC used to use to figure out what actions to recommend.

We are nowhere near out of the woods yet. In fact, it's quite possible that we're heading right back into them.

The town of Acton's current Google Data Studio dashboard is showing 24 active and 3,618 cumulative cases as of June 29. In the most recent "newsflash style update" at 7PM on December 21, 2021, the town reported 1538 cumulative cases with 89 individuals in isolation, 1417 recovered and 32 fatalities.
