As of 5PM today, the Commonwealth of Massachusetts is reporting 2 newly reported confirmed deaths (11 less than yesterday - down 84.6%) for a total of 19,100 deaths, 2,303 newly reported confirmed cases (225 less than yesterday - down 8.9%) for a total of 1,600,844 cases, and 55,877 newly reported molecular tests (11,218 less than yesterday - down 16.7%).The seven day average positivity rate is 4.56%, compared to 4.32% yesterday. The state also reported 1 newly reported probable death (1 more than yesterday) for a total of 1,122 and 170 newly reported probable cases (96 more than yesterday - up 129.7%) for a total of 137,387. Combining the confirmed and probable numbers gives 3 new deaths for a total of 20,222 and 2,473 new cases for a total of 1,738,231. There were 389 COVID-19 patients in hospital (5 more than yesterday - up 1.3%), 25 COVID-19 patients in ICUs (2 less than yesterday - down 7.4%) and 12 COVID-19 patients on ventilators (intubated) (1 more than yesterday - up 9.1%).
Of the four overview trends (formerly the Page 2 "key metrics"), the 7-day average of newly confirmed cases is 1,431.0 (9 less than yesterday - down 0.6%), 2,135% above the lowest observed value of 64.0 on 6/25/2021 and 94.0% below the highest observed value of 23,206.0 on 1/8/2022. The 7-day weighted average of positive molecular test rate is 4.56% (0 more than yesterday - up 5.5%), 1,379% above the lowest observed value of 0.3% on 6/25/2021 and 84% below the highest observed value of 27.7% on 4/15/2020. The 7-day average number of COVID-19 patients in hospital is 355.0 (6 more than yesterday - up 1.7%), 322% above the lowest observed value of 84.0 on 7/8/2021 and 91% below the highest observed value of 3,874.0 on 4/27/2020. The 7-day average number of COVID-19 deaths is 4.0 (1 less than yesterday - down 20.0%), 300% above the lowest observed value of 1.0 on 7/11/2021 and 98% below the highest observed value of 175.0 on 4/24/2020.
Statewide, hospitals reported 8,807 non-ICU beds, of which 7,637 (86.7%) were occupied by non-COVID patients, 364 (4.1%) were occupied by COVID patients, and 806 (9.2%) remained available. Hospitals also reported 1,240 ICU beds, of which 954 (76.9%) were occupied by non-COVID patients, 25 (2.0%) were occupied by COVID patients, and 261 (21.0%) remained available. By comparison, hospitals reported yesterday a total of 8,832 non-ICU beds, of which 7,645 (86.6%) were occupied by non-COVID patients, 357 (4%) were occupied by COVID patients, and 830 (9.4%) remained available. Hospitals also reported yesterday a total of 1,242 ICU beds, of which 940 (75.7%) were occupied by non-COVID patients, 27 (2.2%) were occupied by COVID patients, and 275 (22.1%) remained available.
Two weeks ago, the 7 day confirmed case average was 1,014.0, the 7 day confirmed deaths average was 3.0, the 7 day hospitalization average was 218.0, and the 7 day weighted average positivity rate was 2.93%.
One year ago, the 7 day confirmed case average was 1,043.0, the 7 day confirmed deaths average was 9.0, the 7 day hospitalization average was 693.0, and the 7 day weighted average positivity rate was 2.00% (or 3.59% excluding higher education).

As of April 21, 2022, the CDC reported that, of 3220 counties nationwide, 631 counties (19.60% of total) have a Community Transmission Level of High, 501 counties (15.56% of total) have a Community Transmission Level of Substantial, 1386 counties (43.04% of total) have a Community Transmission Level of Moderate, and 702 counties (21.80% of total) have a Community Transmission Level of Low. The CDC also reported that, of the 14 counties in Massachusetts, 13 counties have a Community Transmission Level of High (Barnstable, Berkshire, Bristol, Essex, Franklin, Hampden, Hampshire, Middlesex, Nantucket, Norfolk, Plymouth, Suffolk, Worcester), and 1 counties have a Community Transmission Level of Moderate (Dukes).

The CDC also reported the following COVID Community Levels for the 14 counties in Massachusetts: 4 counties with Medium community level (Berkshire, Hampshire, Middlesex, Suffolk), and 10 counties with Low community level (Barnstable, Bristol, Dukes, Essex, Franklin, Hampden, Nantucket, Norfolk, Plymouth, Worcester).
Deaths and cases down day-over-day, which is encouraging. Hospitalizations are up again, which is less so. The seven-day averages for deaths and cases are both down, but those for hospitalizations and percent-positive are both up. Maybe - just maybe - Massachusetts has hit its peak for this surge?
The town of Acton's current Google Data Studio dashboard is showing 26 active and 3,009 cumulative cases as of April 21. In the most recent "newsflash style update" at 7PM on December 21, 2021, the town reported 1538 cumulative cases with 89 individuals in isolation, 1417 recovered and 32 fatalities.
