As of 5PM today, the Commonwealth of Massachusetts is reporting 11 newly reported confirmed deaths (1 more than yesterday - up 10.0%) for a total of 17,772 deaths, 1,182 newly reported confirmed cases (46 less than yesterday - down 3.7%) for a total of 686,018 cases, and 47,660 newly reported molecular tests (4,610 less than yesterday - down 8.8%). The seven day average positivity rate is 2.89%, compared to 2.86% yesterday. The state also reported zero newly reported probable deaths (same as yesterday) for a total of 370 and 116 newly reported probable cases (23 less than yesterday - down 16.5%) for a total of 48,468. Combining the confirmed and probable numbers gives 11 new deaths for a total of 18,142 and 1,298 new cases for a total of 734,486. There were 369 COVID-19 patients in hospital (6 less than yesterday - down 1.6%), 80 COVID-19 patients in ICUs (5 less than yesterday - down 5.9%) and 33 COVID-19 patients on ventilators (intubated) (1 more than yesterday - up 3.1%).

Of the four overview trends (formerly the Page 2 "key metrics"), the 7-day average of newly confirmed cases is 831.0 (16 more than yesterday - up 2.0%), 1,198% above the lowest observed value of 64.0 on 6/25/2021 and 87.0% below the highest observed value of 6,233.0 on 1/8/2021. The 7-day weighted average of positive molecular test rate is 2.89% (0 more than yesterday - up 0.9%), 838% above the lowest observed value of 0.3% on 6/25/2021 and 90% below the highest observed value of 27.7% on 4/15/2020. The 7-day average number of COVID-19 patients in hospital is 323.0 (13 more than yesterday - up 4.2%), 280% above the lowest observed value of 85.0 on 7/9/2021 and 92% below the highest observed value of 3,874.0 on 4/27/2020. The 7-day average number of COVID-19 deaths is 5.0 (1 more than yesterday - up 25.0%), 400% above the lowest observed value of 1.0 on 7/12/2021 and 98% below the highest observed value of 175.0 on 4/24/2020.

Statewide, hospitals reported 9,146 non-ICU beds, of which 7,956 (87.0%) were occupied by non-COVID patients, 289 (3.2%) were occupied by COVID patients, and 901 (9.9%) remained available. Hospitals also reported 1,345 ICU beds, of which 954 (70.9%) were occupied by non-COVID patients, 80 (5.9%) were occupied by COVID patients, and 311 (23.1%) remained available. By comparison, hospitals reported yesterday a total of 9,120 non-ICU beds, of which 7,927 (86.9%) were occupied by non-COVID patients, 290 (3%) were occupied by COVID patients, and 903 (9.9%) remained available. Hospitals also reported yesterday a total of 1,349 ICU beds, of which 953 (70.6%) were occupied by non-COVID patients, 85 (6.3%) were occupied by COVID patients, and 311 (23.1%) remained available.

Two weeks ago, the 7 day confirmed case average was 467.0, the 7 day confirmed deaths average was 4.0, the 7 day hospitalization average was 151.0, and the 7 day weighted average positivity rate was 2.07%.

Another mixed bag of day-over-day changes, as deaths are up while cases and hospitalizations are both down. All four seven-day averages are up, which is not what one ever wants to see.

The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention now list every single county in Massachusetts as having either "substantial" or "high" community transmission, and thus recommending mask wearing for all (vaccinated or not) in indoor public spaces.

The town of Acton's current Google Data Studio dashboard is showing 8 active and 1,024 cumulative cases as of August 13. The most recent "newsflash style update" at 11:45AM on May 28, 2021 reported 978 cumulative cases with 3 individuals in isolation, 943 persons recovered and 32 fatalities.
