Local COVID-19 updates
Jun. 1st, 2021 06:09 pmAs has been advertised for several days now, there was no dashboard yesterday:
As of 5PM today, the Commonwealth of Massachusetts is reporting 12 newly reported confirmed deaths (8 more than Sunday - up 200.0%) for a total of 17,520 deaths, 179 newly reported confirmed cases (33 more than Sunday - up 22.6%) for a total of 661,294 cases, and 28,829 newly reported molecular tests (2,348 more than Sunday - up 8.9%). The seven day average positivity rate is 0.68%, compared to 0.66% Sunday. Excluding higher education, the seven day average positivity rate is 1.00%, compared to 1.00% Sunday. The number of estimated active cases was 5,918 (784 less than Sunday - down 11.7%). Combining the confirmed and probable numbers gives 11 new deaths for a total of 17,883 and 186 new cases for a total of 707,131. There were 225 COVID-19 patients in hospital (11 less than Sunday - down 4.7%), 77 COVID-19 patients in ICUs (3 more than Sunday - up 4.1%) and 38 COVID-19 patients on ventilators (intubated) (1 less than Sunday - down 2.6%).
Of the four overview trends (formerly the Page 2 "key metrics"), the 7-day average of newly confirmed cases is 138.0 (33 less than yesterday - down 19.3%), 0% above the lowest observed value of 138.0 on 5/31/2021 and 98.0% below the highest observed value of 6,238.0 on 1/8/2021. The 7-day weighted average of positive molecular test rate is 0.68% (0 more than yesterday - up 3.2%), 4% above the lowest observed value of 0.7% on 5/30/2021 and 98% below the highest observed value of 27.7% on 4/15/2020. The 7-day average number of COVID-19 patients in hospital is 242.0 (7 less than yesterday - down 2.8%), 56% above the lowest observed value of 155.0 on 8/26/2020 and 94% below the highest observed value of 3,874.0 on 4/27/2020. The 7-day average number of COVID-19 deaths is 5.0 (same as yesterday), 0% above the lowest observed value of 5.0 on 5/29/2021 and 98% below the highest observed value of 175.0 on 4/24/2020.
Statewide, hospitals reported 8,974 non-ICU beds, of which 6,977 (77.7%) were occupied by non-COVID patients, 148 (1.6%) were occupied by COVID patients, and 1,849 (20.6%) remained available. Hospitals also reported 1,359 ICU beds, of which 849 (62.5%) were occupied by non-COVID patients, 77 (5.7%) were occupied by COVID patients, and 433 (31.9%) remained available. By comparison, hospitals reported Sunday a total of 9,079 non-ICU beds, of which 7,356 (81.0%) were occupied by non-COVID patients, 162 (2%) were occupied by COVID patients, and 1,561 (17.2%) remained available. Two weeks ago, the 7 day confirmed case average was 370.0, the 7 day confirmed deaths average was 8.0, the 7 day hospitalization average was 373.0, and the 7 day weighted average positivity rate was 1.06% (or 1.71% excluding higher education).
The daily raw data file used to create this report is available here.
Compared to the previous report, confirmed deaths are up, although averaging the 8 deaths over two days gives four per day, which is the same as Sunday. Cases are up slightly, but then again, that's over two days; the average is actually down from Sunday's number. The number of probable deaths actually went down, which presumably means at least one case was reclassified as not a COVID death after all. Estimated active cases continue to drop and are now below six thousand, and the total hospitalization count dropped as well. The seven-day averages for cases and deaths are both at their lowest observed values, while the seven-day average for hospitalizations dropped again and the percent-positive ticked up very slightly. Overall, pretty good numbers, with the large caveat that we're coming off a long weekend with probably-wonky test reporting.
The town of Acton's current Google Data Studio dashboard is showing zero active and 978 cumulative cases as of June 1. The most recent "newsflash style update" at 11:45AM on May 28, 2021 reported 978 cumulative cases with 3 individuals in isolation, 943 persons recovered and 32 fatalities.
No active cases in my town. That's good news.
Please note: The COVID-19 dashboard report was NOT published on Memorial Day, Monday, May 31. The report published on Tuesday, June 1 includes two days of COVID-19 data. So, what do we get with two (weekend) days of data? We get weird data, that's what.
