As of 5PM today, the Commonwealth of Massachusetts is reporting 40 newly reported confirmed deaths (1 more than yesterday - up 2.6%) for a total of 16,711 deaths, 2,301 newly reported confirmed cases (27 more than yesterday - up 1.2%) for a total of 588,599 cases, and 107,593 newly reported molecular tests (4,160 less than yesterday - down 3.7%). The seven day average positivity rate is 2.32%, compared to 2.22% yesterday. Excluding higher education, the seven day average positivity rate is 3.98%, compared to 3.89% yesterday. The number of estimated active cases was 28,810 (732 more than yesterday - up 2.6%). The state also reported 1 newly reported probable death (same as yesterday) for a total of 340 and 459 newly reported probable cases (323 more than yesterday - up 237.5%) for a total of 36,387. Combining the confirmed and probable numbers gives 41 new deaths for a total of 17,051 and 2,760 new cases for a total of 624,986. There were 622 COVID-19 patients in hospital (9 less than yesterday - down 1.4%), 139 COVID-19 patients in ICUs (2 more than yesterday - up 1.5%) and 84 COVID-19 patients on ventilators (intubated) (3 less than yesterday - down 3.4%).
Of the four overview trends (formerly the Page 2 "key metrics"), the 7-day average of newly confirmed cases is 1,404.0 (54 more than yesterday - up 4.0%), 794% above the lowest observed value of 157.0 on 7/4/2020 and 78.0% below the highest observed value of 6,240.0 on 1/8/2021. The 7-day weighted average of positive molecular test rate is 2.32% (0 more than yesterday - up 4.1%), 200% above the lowest observed value of 0.8% on 9/21/2020 and 92% below the highest observed value of 27.7% on 4/15/2020. The 7-day average number of COVID-19 patients in hospital is 606.0 (4 more than yesterday - up 0.7%), 290% above the lowest observed value of 155.0 on 8/26/2020 and 85% below the highest observed value of 3,874.0 on 4/27/2020. The 7-day average number of COVID-19 deaths is 31.0 (1 less than yesterday - down 3.1%), 181% above the lowest observed value of 11.0 on 9/9/2020 and 83% below the highest observed value of 175.0 on 4/24/2020.
Statewide, hospitals reported 9,191 non-ICU beds, of which 7,439 (80.9%) were occupied by non-COVID patients, 483 (5.3%) were occupied by COVID patients, and 1,269 (13.8%) remained available. Hospitals also reported 1,400 ICU beds, of which 882 (63.0%) were occupied by non-COVID patients, 139 (9.9%) were occupied by COVID patients, and 379 (27.1%) remained available. By comparison, hospitals reported yesterday a total of 9,185 non-ICU beds, of which 7,420 (80.8%) were occupied by non-COVID patients, 494 (5%) were occupied by COVID patients, and 1,271 (13.8%) remained available. Hospitals also reported yesterday a total of 1,394 ICU beds, of which 904 (64.8%) were occupied by non-COVID patients, 137 (9.8%) were occupied by COVID patients, and 353 (25.3%) remained available.
Two weeks ago, the 7 day confirmed case average was 1,017.0, the 7 day confirmed deaths average was 32.0, the 7 day hospitalization average was 682.0, and the 7 day weighted average positivity rate was 1.77% (or 3.05% excluding higher education).

More bad news day-to-day; deaths, cases and percent-positive all up, as are the estimated total active cases; the number of newly reported confirmed cases is the highest since the report of 3,004 such cases on February 7. The seven-day averages for cases and percent-positive are also on upward trajectories, being higher than the respective numbers both two and four weeks ago.
We'll see if the hospitalization and death numbers catch up to this rising case load, or if the fact that the bulk of the cases nowadays are in the relatively younger age brackets means the new cases stay out of the hospitals and ICUs.
The town of Acton's current Google Data Studio dashboard is showing 22 active and 832 cumulative cases as of March 24, and apparently has not been updated since. The most recent "newsflash style update" at 2PM on March 19, 2021 reported 813 cumulative cases with 9 individuals in isolation, 772 persons recovered and 32 fatalities.
