This ran late today because the state changed one of the data formats in the raw data - again - and of course the only way I can find that sort of thing out is to have things blow up.

As of 5PM today, the Commonwealth of Massachusetts is reporting 74 newly reported confirmed deaths (3 more than yesterday - up 4.2%) for a total of 12,708 deaths, 7,635 newly reported confirmed cases (499 more than yesterday - up 7.0%) for a total of 400,823 cases, and 108,569 newly reported molecular tests (157 more than yesterday - up 0.1%). The seven day average positivity rate is 7.49%, compared to 7.83% yesterday. Excluding higher education, the seven day average positivity rate is 8.71%, compared to 9.08% yesterday. The number of estimated active cases was 87,348 (5,744 more than yesterday - up 7.0%). The state also reported 2 newly reported probable deaths (same as yesterday) for a total of 277 and 485 newly reported probable cases (73 more than yesterday - up 17.7%) for a total of 18,898. Combining the confirmed and probable numbers gives 76 new deaths for a total of 12,985 and 8,120 new cases for a total of 419,721. There were 2,311 COVID-19 patients in hospital (75 less than yesterday - down 3.1%), 440 COVID-19 patients in ICUs (15 less than yesterday - down 3.3%) and 280 COVID-19 patients on ventilators (intubated) (3 more than yesterday - up 1.1%).

Of the four overview trends (formerly the Page 2 "key metrics"), the 7-day average of newly confirmed cases is 3,863 (490 more than yesterday - up 14.5%), 2,360% above the lowest observed value of 157 on July 4 and 21% below the highest observed value of 4,875 on January 3. The 7-day weighted average of positive molecular test rate is 7.5% (0 less than yesterday - down 4.2%), 872% above the lowest observed value of 0.8% on September 21 and 73% below the highest observed value of 27.7% on April 15. The 7-day average number of COVID-19 patients in hospital is 2,347 (5 more than yesterday - up 0.2%), 1,414% above the lowest observed value of 155 on August 26 and 40% below the highest observed value of 3,874 on April 27. The 7-day average number of COVID-19 deaths is 63 (2 more than yesterday - up 3.3%), 472% above the lowest observed value of 11 on September 9 and 64% below the highest observed value of 175 on April 24.

Statewide, hospitals reported 9,315 non-ICU beds, of which 6,372 (68%) were occupied by non-COVID patients, 1,871 (20%) were occupied by COVID patients, and 1,072 (12%) remained available. Hospitals also reported 1,478 ICU beds, of which 738 (50%) were occupied by non-COVID patients, 440 (30%) were occupied by COVID patients, and 300 (20%) remained available. By comparison, yesterday hospitals reported 9,294 non-ICU beds, of which 6,308 (68%) were occupied by non-COVID patients, 1,931 (21%) were occupied by COVID patients, and 1,055 (11%) remained available. Hospitals also reported 1,453 ICU beds, of which 725 (50%) were occupied by non-COVID patients, 455 (31%) were occupied by COVID patients, and 273 (19%) remained available.

Two weeks ago, the 7 day confirmed case average was 4,235, the 7 day confirmed deaths average was 57, the 7 day hospitalization average was 2,013, and the 7 day weighted average positivity rate was 6.6% (or 7.67% excluding higher education).

The daily raw data file used to create this report is available here.

Remember yesterday, when the state hit a single-day record? Well, cases went up again - and the state passed the 400k confirmed case benchmark. Deaths are also up again. On the bright(er) side, the percent-positive rate is dropping, as are the COVID-19 patient and ICU counts.

The town of Acton's current Google Data Studio dashboard is showing 49 active and 565 cumulative cases as of January 6; I have no idea why there's no data for yesterday or today. The most recent "newsflash style update" at 9PM on December 15 reported 433 cumulative cases with 63 individuals in isolation, 345 persons recovered and 25 fatalities.
