The number of estimated active cases was 40,449 (247 more than yesterday - up 0.6%). The state also reported zero newly reported probable deaths (1 less than yesterday) for a total of 232 and 351 newly reported probable cases (351 more than yesterday) for a total of 7,139. Combining the confirmed and probable numbers gives 20 new deaths for a total of 10,551 and 2,576 new cases for a total of 211,199. There were 954 COVID-19 patients in hospital (32 more than yesterday - up 3.5%), 205 COVID-19 patients in ICUs (1 more than yesterday - up 0.5%) and 99 COVID-19 patients on ventilators (intubated) (8 more than yesterday - up 8.8%).
Of the Commonwealth's four "key metrics" listed on page 2 of the report, the 7-day average of newly confirmed cases is 1,756 (185 less than yesterday - down 9.5%), 1,018% above the lowest observed value of 157 on July 4 and 32% below the highest observed value of 2,554 on November 18. The 7-day weighted average of positive molecular test rate is 3.0% (0 less than yesterday - down 1.5%), 290% above the lowest observed value of 0.8% on September 21 and 89% below the highest observed value of 27.7% on April 15. The 7-day average number of COVID-19 patients in hospital is 909 (17 more than yesterday - up 1.9%), 486% above the lowest observed value of 155 on August 26 and 77% below the highest observed value of 3,874 on April 27. The 7-day average number of COVID-19 deaths is 22 (1 less than yesterday - down 4.3%), 100% above the lowest observed value of 11 on September 9. and 88% below the highest observed value of 175 on April 24.
Two weeks ago, the 7 day confirmed case average was 1,407, the 7 day confirmed deaths average was 18, the 7 day hospitalization average was 546, and the 7 day weighted average positivity rate was 2.6% (or 4.42% excluding higher education).
Bleah. There's a bit of good news, in that the positivity rate is ticking down a bit; but cases and deaths are both up day-to-day, as are all the hospitalization counts. The estimated active cases count is also up, although by the smallest percentage since the state started reporting that metric.
The town of Acton has not posted an update today, but did do so last night - along with the results of an emergency SelectboarBoard of Health meeting. As of the most recent report at 5PM on November 21, the town of Acton reported 305 cumulative cases of COVID-19 in town with 34 individuals in isolation, 250 recovered and 21 fatalities; that's fourteen more cases, one more individual in isolation, and thirteen more persons recovered compared to the previous report on November 21. Scarily, that jump in cases only took two days; the boards stated that they're making preparations in case Acton gets put into the official "high-risk" category in the next weekly report.
Which, by the way, won't be coming out on Thursday, according to a notice on the state's COVID-19 Response Reporting website:
