Local COVID-19 updates

Holy SHIT, those numbers are bad. Deaths are down day-over-day, so that's semi-good news; on the other hand, the total confirmed deaths are now over nineteen thousand statewide for the first time ever. Worse, though, is the huge jump in newly reported cases; we haven't had a single-day report over four thousand cases since January 28, and today's 4,838 cases is the highest single-day report since the 4,935 reported on January 22. The 957 patients in hospital is the highest that's been reported since 970 on February 20, and the jump of 51 is the highest such increase since a net of 89 new patients was reported on January 4. And, just in case that isn't bad enough news, the seven-day average of percent-positive is up above five percent for the first time since January 23.
Things are as bad as during last winter's surge, and it's not even the solstice yet. Meanwhile, the Omicron variant has been detected in California (in a fully vaccinated person, no less).
And Governor Baker made news today ... by saying he wasn't going to run for reelection in 2022. Wonder if he plans to do anything at all between now and then?
The town of Acton's current Google Data Studio dashboard is showing 57 active and 1,363 cumulative cases as of November 30. The most recent "newsflash style update" at 1PM on November 22, 2021 reported 1304 cumulative cases with 54 individuals in isolation, 1218 persons recovered and 32 fatalities.
