As of 4PM today, the Commonwealth of Massachusetts is reporting 22 newly reported confirmed deaths (5 more than yesterday - up 29.4%) for a total of 8,892 deaths, 219 newly reported confirmed cases (174 less than yesterday - down 44.3%) for a total of 120,038 cases, and 17,559 new patients tested by molecular tests (14,025 less than yesterday - down 44.4%) for a total of 1,819,144 individuals tested, with a total of 2,600,312 molecular tests administered to date. The ratio of newly confirmed cases to individuals tested by molecular test is 1.2%, compared to 1.2% yesterday. The state also reported 1 newly reported probable death (1 more than yesterday) for a total of 208 deaths, and zero newly reported probable cases (22 less than yesterday - down 100.0%) for a total of 1,720 cases. The state also reported 169 patients tested by antibody tests (272 less than yesterday - down 61.7%) for a total of 114,277 and 349 patients tested by antigen tests (955 less than yesterday - down 73.2%) for a total of 91,070. Combining the confirmed and probable numbers gives 23 new deaths for a total of 9,100 and 219 new cases for a total of 121,758.

The seven day average number of newly confirmed cases per day is 307.1 compared to 357.8 last week (down 14.2%) and 287.4 two weeks ago (up 6.9%). The seven day average number of newly confirmed deaths per day is 14.4 compared to 20.2 last week (down 28.5%) and 12.6 two weeks ago (up 14.8%). The seven day average number of molecular tests per day is 20,798.9 compared to 22,948.3 last week (down 9.4%) and 19,018.9 two weeks ago (up 9.4%). The seven day average percentage of tests coming back positive per day is 1.5% compared to 1.5% last week and 1.5% two weeks ago. (The above averages are calculated from today's raw data download.)

Of the Commonwealth's four "key metrics" listed on page 2 of the report, the seven-day weighted average positive test rate is 0.9%, 0% above the lowest observed value of 0.9% on September 2. The three-day average number of COVID-19 patients in hospital is 318, 5% above the lowest observed value of 302 on August 29. The number of hospitals using surge capacity is 2, 2 above the lowest observed value of 0 on August 29. The three-day average number of COVID-19 deaths is 14, 28% above the lowest observed value of 11 on August 4.

Confirmed deaths going up is never good. Neither is that huge drop in reported tests, although the drop in confirmed cases is of the same proportion. That seven-day average number of tests doesn't make me feel that great, either.

The town of Acton has yet to post an update today. As of the most recent report at 3PM on August 31, the town of Acton reported 198 cumulative cases of COVID-19 in town with 4 individuals in isolation, 173 recovered and 21 fatalities.
