The Current Paying Gig's building management just sent out this little gem:

It is imperative that you do not dispose of cigarette butts within the pit that houses the GAS lines and meter that is located on the XXXXX/YYYYY Street corner of the building!! Use the ashtrays located at the ZZZZZZ Street Entrance. This is not a request-you are putting yourself and the lives of others at risk.

Just more evidence, I suppose, that nicotine addiction is correlated with lowered levels of cluefulness. (No, I'm not going to imply causation, there. But, seriously, chucking butts into the frigging gas meter?)

That's the sort of thing that, had it ever happened in one of my platoons or companies, I'd have just informed the troops there was a problem, explained it, and let them deal with the malefactor. I suspect somebody would have been especially clumsy that day, and might have fallen into the bulkheads several times.
