edschweppeThe US Postal Service may boast about how "neither snow nor rain nor heat nor gloom of night" keeps them from delivering the mail [1] - but Britain's Royal Mail doesn't even need a street address. According to the BBC:

Perhaps the silliest part of the story, though, is the fact that Mr. Bates didn't include his return address in his letter, so neither of them have the other's address.
[1] Actually, that famous slogan isn't the official USPS motto; they don't have one. The "neither snow nor rain ..." bit comes from the inscription on the General Post Office building in New York City, at 8th Avenue and 33rd Street (across from Pennsylvania Station).
Paul Bates drew a map on an envelope with a dot labelled "somewhere here" in north Cornwall, below the name of former colleague Peter O'Leary.
But postal workers in Bude managed to pinpoint the right address and deliver the letter.
