Nov. 9th, 2021 06:43 pmAs of 5PM today, the Commonwealth of Massachusetts is reporting 24 newly reported confirmed deaths (18 more than yesterday - up 300.0%) for a total of 18,719 deaths, 1,397 newly reported confirmed cases (2,642 less than yesterday - down 65.4%) for a total of 808,601 cases, and 63,441 newly reported molecular tests (147,596 less than yesterday - down 69.9%).
Note that the previous days's data covers 3 days. Averaged over that period, there were 2.0 newly reported deaths per day and today's newly reported deaths are 22 more than the previous day's values - up 1,100.0%. There were 1,346.3 newly reported cases per day and today's newly reported cases are 51 more than the previous day's values - up 3.8%. There were 70,345.7 newly reported molecular tests per day and today's newly reported tests are 6,905 less than the previous day's values - down 9.8%.
The seven day average positivity rate is 2.05%, compared to 1.86% yesterday. The state also reported zero newly reported probable deaths (same as yesterday) for a total of 398 and 142 newly reported probable cases (145 less than yesterday - down 50.5%) for a total of 58,744. Combining the confirmed and probable numbers gives 24 new deaths for a total of 19,117 and 1,539 new cases for a total of 867,345. There were 515 COVID-19 patients in hospital (1 less than yesterday - down 0.2%), 143 COVID-19 patients in ICUs (5 more than yesterday - up 3.6%) and 81 COVID-19 patients on ventilators (intubated) (9 more than yesterday - up 12.5%).
Of the four overview trends (formerly the Page 2 "key metrics"), the 7-day average of newly confirmed cases is 1,155.0 (39 less than yesterday - down 3.3%), 1,704% above the lowest observed value of 64.0 on 6/25/2021 and 82.0% below the highest observed value of 6,229.0 on 1/8/2021. The 7-day weighted average of positive molecular test rate is 2.05% (0 more than yesterday - up 10.6%), 566% above the lowest observed value of 0.3% on 6/25/2021 and 93% below the highest observed value of 27.7% on 4/15/2020. The 7-day average number of COVID-19 patients in hospital is 515.0 (2 less than yesterday - down 0.4%), 505% above the lowest observed value of 85.0 on 7/9/2021 and 87% below the highest observed value of 3,874.0 on 4/27/2020. The 7-day average number of COVID-19 deaths is 9.0 (same as yesterday), 800% above the lowest observed value of 1.0 on 7/11/2021 and 95% below the highest observed value of 175.0 on 4/24/2020.
Statewide, hospitals reported 8,922 non-ICU beds, of which 7,541 (84.5%) were occupied by non-COVID patients, 372 (4.2%) were occupied by COVID patients, and 1,009 (11.3%) remained available. Hospitals also reported 1,277 ICU beds, of which 843 (66.0%) were occupied by non-COVID patients, 143 (11.2%) were occupied by COVID patients, and 291 (22.8%) remained available. By comparison, hospitals reported yesterday a total of 8,888 non-ICU beds, of which 7,474 (84.1%) were occupied by non-COVID patients, 378 (4%) were occupied by COVID patients, and 1,036 (11.7%) remained available. Hospitals also reported yesterday a total of 1,270 ICU beds, of which 841 (66.2%) were occupied by non-COVID patients, 138 (10.9%) were occupied by COVID patients, and 291 (22.9%) remained available.
Two weeks ago, the 7 day confirmed case average was 880.0, the 7 day confirmed deaths average was 10.0, the 7 day hospitalization average was 540.0, and the 7 day weighted average positivity rate was 1.61%.

Another Tuesday, another jump in newly reported deaths, as well as more newly reported cases than yesterday's numbers if you average the latter over three days. At least the total hospitalization count dropped (by all of one), but the percent-positive average is back above two percent. All in all, things aren't showing much in the way of getting any better any time soon.
The town of Acton's current Google Data Studio dashboard is showing 21 active and 1,220 cumulative cases as of November 8. The most recent "newsflash style update" at 11:45AM on May 28, 2021 reported 978 cumulative cases with 3 individuals in isolation, 943 persons recovered and 32 fatalities.
