Local COVID-19 updates
Oct. 18th, 2021 05:33 pmIt's Monday and the state reports three days worth of data! Although perhaps not today; not fully, at least. Today's dashboard page includes the following notice:
As of 5PM today, the Commonwealth of Massachusetts is reporting 10 newly reported confirmed deaths (2 less than Friday - down 16.7%) for a total of 18,449 deaths, 2,815 newly reported confirmed cases (1,303 more than Friday - up 86.2%) for a total of 780,290 cases, and 202,118 newly reported molecular tests (96,480 more than Friday - up 91.3%).
Note that today's data covers 3 days. Averaged over that period, there were 3.3 newly reported deaths per day (9 less than Friday - down 72.2%), 938.3 newly reported cases per day (574 less than Friday - down 37.9%), and 67,372.7 newly reported molecular tests per day (38,265 less than Friday - down 36.2%).
The seven day average positivity rate is 1.67%, compared to 2.05% Friday. The state also reported zero newly reported probable deaths (same as Friday) for a total of 389 and 176 newly reported probable cases (39 more than Friday - up 28.5%) for a total of 56,012. Combining the confirmed and probable numbers gives 10 new deaths for a total of 18,838 and 2,991 new cases for a total of 836,302. There were 569 COVID-19 patients in hospital (28 more than Friday - up 5.2%), 138 COVID-19 patients in ICUs (2 less than Friday - down 1.4%) and 75 COVID-19 patients on ventilators (intubated) (5 less than Friday - down 6.2%).
Of the four overview trends (formerly the Page 2 "key metrics"), the 7-day average of newly confirmed cases is 943.0 (30 less than Friday - down 3.1%), 1,373% above the lowest observed value of 64.0 on 6/25/2021 and 85.0% below the highest observed value of 6,230.0 on 1/8/2021. The 7-day weighted average of positive molecular test rate is 1.67% (0 less than Friday - down 18.9%), 440% above the lowest observed value of 0.3% on 6/25/2021 and 94% below the highest observed value of 27.7% on 4/15/2020. Two weeks ago, the 7 day confirmed case average was 1,074.0, the 7 day confirmed deaths average was 13.0, the 7 day hospitalization average was 611.0, and the 7 day weighted average positivity rate was 1.69%.
The daily raw data file used to create this report is available here.
Good to see deaths and cases (averaged over three days, at least) down, although the aforementioned "national server" issue makes case comparisons even wonkier than usual for a Monday. A noticeable uptick in hospitalizations compared to Friday is not good news, however. Still, we're below where we were a couple of weeks ago, and that's certainly something.
The town of Acton's current Google Data Studio dashboard is showing 8 active and 1,169 cumulative cases as of October 17; the cumulative cases count has been constant since October 15. The most recent "newsflash style update" at 11:45AM on May 28, 2021 reported 978 cumulative cases with 3 individuals in isolation, 943 persons recovered and 32 fatalities.
Please note: A national server that multiple laboratories use for reporting laboratory results to public health departments was down over the 10/16-17 weekend. The number of cases and tests that are being reported today will appear lower than usual. The backlog is currently being received and will be reported out tomorrow (Tuesday 10/19). Newly reported results will be attributed to the day the sample was taken.Anyway ...
