The state continues to provide advanced warning of the upcoming Memorial Day outage, at least:
Please note: The COVID-19 dashboard report will NOT be published on Memorial Day, Monday, May 31. The report published on Tuesday, June 1 will include two days of COVID-19 data.
I'm expecting that figuring trends next week will be wonkier than usual.

As of 5PM today, the Commonwealth of Massachusetts is reporting 9 newly reported confirmed deaths (5 more than yesterday - up 125.0%) for a total of 17,504 deaths, 203 newly reported confirmed cases (50 less than yesterday - down 19.8%) for a total of 660,969 cases, and 45,028 newly reported molecular tests (5,052 more than yesterday - up 12.6%). The seven day average positivity rate is 0.69%, compared to 0.74% yesterday. Excluding higher education, the seven day average positivity rate is 1.04%, compared to 1.12% yesterday. The number of estimated active cases was 6,892 (422 less than yesterday - down 5.8%). The state also reported 5 newly reported probable deaths (5 more than yesterday) for a total of 364 and 21 newly reported probable cases (13 less than yesterday - down 38.2%) for a total of 45,814. Combining the confirmed and probable numbers gives 14 new deaths for a total of 17,868 and 224 new cases for a total of 706,783. There were 236 COVID-19 patients in hospital (5 less than yesterday - down 2.1%), 73 COVID-19 patients in ICUs (1 less than yesterday - down 1.4%) and 40 COVID-19 patients on ventilators (intubated) (same as yesterday).

Of the four overview trends (formerly the Page 2 "key metrics"), the 7-day average of newly confirmed cases is 174.0 (9 less than yesterday - down 4.9%), 10% above the lowest observed value of 157.0 on 7/4/2020 and 98.0% below the highest observed value of 6,238.0 on 1/8/2021. The 7-day weighted average of positive molecular test rate is 0.69% (0 less than yesterday - down 6.4%), 0% above the lowest observed value of 0.7% on 5/28/2021 and 97% below the highest observed value of 27.7% on 4/15/2020. The 7-day average number of COVID-19 patients in hospital is 255.0 (8 less than yesterday - down 3.0%), 64% above the lowest observed value of 155.0 on 8/26/2020 and 94% below the highest observed value of 3,874.0 on 4/27/2020. The 7-day average number of COVID-19 deaths is 6.0 (1 more than yesterday - up 20.0%), 0% above the lowest observed value of 6.0 on 5/26/2021 and 97% below the highest observed value of 175.0 on 4/24/2020.

Statewide, hospitals reported 9,133 non-ICU beds, of which 7,657 (83.8%) were occupied by non-COVID patients, 163 (1.8%) were occupied by COVID patients, and 1,313 (14.4%) remained available. Hospitals also reported 1,356 ICU beds, of which 930 (68.6%) were occupied by non-COVID patients, 73 (5.4%) were occupied by COVID patients, and 353 (26.0%) remained available. By comparison, hospitals reported yesterday a total of 9,133 non-ICU beds, of which 7,669 (84.0%) were occupied by non-COVID patients, 167 (2%) were occupied by COVID patients, and 1,297 (14.2%) remained available. Hospitals also reported yesterday a total of 1,362 ICU beds, of which 954 (70.0%) were occupied by non-COVID patients, 74 (5.4%) were occupied by COVID patients, and 334 (24.5%) remained available.

Two weeks ago, the 7 day confirmed case average was 406.0, the 7 day confirmed deaths average was 7.0, the 7 day hospitalization average was 411.0, and the 7 day weighted average positivity rate was 1.03% (or 1.68% excluding higher education).

The daily raw data file used to create this report is available here.

Deaths are up day-to-day, which isn't great; however, cases and hospitalizations are both down, and the estimated active case count is down below seven thousand. The seven-day averages are also mostly looking good, with the percent-positive rate of 0.69% at the new Lowest Observed Value (LOV) ever reported, and newly confirmed cases and deaths both nearly at the LOV. If these trends continue statewide now that the business restrictions have been lifted, I might actually start thinking we're (locally) in decent shape.

The town of Acton's current Google Data Studio dashboard is showing 3 active and 978 cumulative cases as of May 28. The most recent "newsflash style update" at 11:45AM on May 28, 2021 reported 978 cumulative cases with 3 individuals in isolation, 943 persons recovered and 32 fatalities.
