As of 5PM today, the Commonwealth of Massachusetts is reporting 10 newly reported confirmed deaths (3 less than yesterday - down 23.1%) for a total of 17,110 deaths, 1,694 newly reported confirmed cases (268 less than yesterday - down 13.7%) for a total of 630,206 cases, and 97,742 newly reported molecular tests (9,845 less than yesterday - down 9.2%). The seven day average positivity rate is 2.15%, compared to 2.28% yesterday. Excluding higher education, the seven day average positivity rate is 3.67%, compared to 3.92% yesterday. The number of estimated active cases was 34,682 (418 less than yesterday - down 1.2%). Combining the confirmed and probable numbers gives 10 new deaths for a total of 17,455 and 1,968 new cases for a total of 671,250. There were 693 COVID-19 patients in hospital (6 less than yesterday - down 0.9%), 169 COVID-19 patients in ICUs (5 more than yesterday - up 3.0%) and 99 COVID-19 patients on ventilators (intubated) (1 more than yesterday - up 1.0%).
Of the four overview trends (formerly the Page 2 "key metrics"), the 7-day average of newly confirmed cases is 1,331.0 (28 less than yesterday - down 2.1%), 747% above the lowest observed value of 157.0 on 7/4/2020 and 79.0% below the highest observed value of 6,239.0 on 1/8/2021. The 7-day weighted average of positive molecular test rate is 2.15% (0 less than yesterday - down 5.4%), 179% above the lowest observed value of 0.8% on 9/21/2020 and 92% below the highest observed value of 27.7% on 4/15/2020. Statewide, hospitals reported 9,214 non-ICU beds, of which 7,539 (81.8%) were occupied by non-COVID patients, 524 (5.7%) were occupied by COVID patients, and 1,151 (12.5%) remained available. Hospitals also reported 1,386 ICU beds, of which 882 (63.6%) were occupied by non-COVID patients, 169 (12.2%) were occupied by COVID patients, and 335 (24.2%) remained available. By comparison, hospitals reported yesterday a total of 9,205 non-ICU beds, of which 7,646 (83.1%) were occupied by non-COVID patients, 535 (6%) were occupied by COVID patients, and 1,024 (11.1%) remained available. Hospitals also reported yesterday a total of 1,385 ICU beds, of which 881 (63.6%) were occupied by non-COVID patients, 164 (11.8%) were occupied by COVID patients, and 340 (24.5%) remained available.
Two weeks ago, the 7 day confirmed case average was 1,573.0, the 7 day confirmed deaths average was 25.0, the 7 day hospitalization average was 687.0, and the 7 day weighted average positivity rate was 2.44% (or 4.05% excluding higher education).

Nice drop in day-to-day deaths and cases, tempered slightly by the knowledge that it's the weekend and reporting can get wonky. Estimated average cases are also down, as are total hospitalizations and three of the four seven-day averages (and the fourth, deaths, held constant at the lowest observed value); all in all, pretty decent daily trend. The seven-day hospitalization average is still above where it was two weeks ago, but the other seven-day averages are all down from then. Hopefully what we're seeing is (a) the March mini-surge tailing off as more and more folks are vaccinated and (b) the tail end of the cases from that March mini-surge working their way through the health care system.
Hopefully.
