As of 5PM today, the Commonwealth of Massachusetts is reporting 8 newly reported confirmed deaths (5 more than yesterday - up 166.7%) for a total of 17,042 deaths, 1,831 newly reported confirmed cases (276 less than yesterday - down 13.1%) for a total of 619,885 cases, and 85,910 newly reported molecular tests (25,460 less than yesterday - down 22.9%). The seven day average positivity rate is 2.20%, compared to 2.30% yesterday. Excluding higher education, the seven day average positivity rate is 3.85%, compared to 3.98% yesterday. The number of estimated active cases was 36,466 (619 more than yesterday - up 1.7%). The state also reported zero newly reported probable deaths (same as yesterday) for a total of 345 and 160 newly reported probable cases (33 less than yesterday - down 17.1%) for a total of 39,684. Combining the confirmed and probable numbers gives 8 new deaths for a total of 17,387 and 1,991 new cases for a total of 659,569. There were 698 COVID-19 patients in hospital (13 more than yesterday - up 1.9%), 172 COVID-19 patients in ICUs (6 less than yesterday - down 3.4%) and 100 COVID-19 patients on ventilators (intubated) (2 more than yesterday - up 2.0%).
Of the four overview trends (formerly the Page 2 "key metrics"), the 7-day average of newly confirmed cases is 1,524.0 (80 more than yesterday - up 5.5%), 870% above the lowest observed value of 157.0 on 7/4/2020 and 76.0% below the highest observed value of 6,239.0 on 1/8/2021. The 7-day weighted average of positive molecular test rate is 2.20% (0 less than yesterday - down 4.4%), 185% above the lowest observed value of 0.8% on 9/21/2020 and 92% below the highest observed value of 27.7% on 4/15/2020. The 7-day average number of COVID-19 patients in hospital is 716.0 (2 less than yesterday - down 0.3%), 361% above the lowest observed value of 155.0 on 8/26/2020 and 82% below the highest observed value of 3,874.0 on 4/27/2020. The 7-day average number of COVID-19 deaths is 9.0 (2 less than yesterday - down 18.2%), 0% above the lowest observed value of 9.0 on 4/9/2021 and 95% below the highest observed value of 175.0 on 4/24/2020.
Statewide, hospitals reported 9,181 non-ICU beds, of which 7,349 (80.0%) were occupied by non-COVID patients, 526 (5.7%) were occupied by COVID patients, and 1,306 (14.2%) remained available. Hospitals also reported 1,374 ICU beds, of which 861 (62.7%) were occupied by non-COVID patients, 172 (12.5%) were occupied by COVID patients, and 341 (24.8%) remained available. By comparison, hospitals reported yesterday a total of 9,254 non-ICU beds, of which 7,549 (81.6%) were occupied by non-COVID patients, 507 (5%) were occupied by COVID patients, and 1,198 (12.9%) remained available. Hospitals also reported yesterday a total of 1,381 ICU beds, of which 868 (62.9%) were occupied by non-COVID patients, 178 (12.9%) were occupied by COVID patients, and 335 (24.3%) remained available.
Two weeks ago, the 7 day confirmed case average was 1,583.0, the 7 day confirmed deaths average was 29.0, the 7 day hospitalization average was 623.0, and the 7 day weighted average positivity rate was 2.28% (or 3.90% excluding higher education).

Another mixed bag, day-to-day: deaths up, cases down but also tests down, and estimated active cases down as well. The fact that newly reported cases were down while newly reported tests were down further makes me suspect the drop in cases is an artifact of weekend reporting. Hospitalization rates are also up (although the COVID-19 ICU population is down), which isn't great news either. On the other hand, the seven-day averages for cases, deaths and percent-positive are all down, both day-to-day and in comparision to two weeks ago.
The town of Acton's current Google Data Studio dashboard is showing 38 active and 896 cumulative cases as of April 8, and has not been updated since. The most recent "newsflash style update" at 1:30PM on April 3, 2021 reported 871 cumulative cases with 38 individuals in isolation, 801 persons recovered and 32 fatalities.
