As of 5PM today, the Commonwealth of Massachusetts is reporting 41 newly reported confirmed deaths (4 less than yesterday - down 8.9%) for a total of 13,930 deaths, 2,215 newly reported confirmed cases (1,262 less than yesterday - down 36.3%) for a total of 481,617 cases, and 49,701 newly reported molecular tests (28,949 less than yesterday - down 36.8%). The seven day average positivity rate is 4.77%, compared to 4.82% yesterday. Excluding higher education, the seven day average positivity rate is 6.37%, compared to 6.36% yesterday. The number of estimated active cases was 85,395 (6,640 less than yesterday - down 7.2%). The state also reported 1 newly reported probable death (1 more than yesterday) for a total of 290 and 280 newly reported probable cases (106 more than yesterday - up 60.9%) for a total of 24,566. Combining the confirmed and probable numbers gives 42 new deaths for a total of 14,220 and 2,495 new cases for a total of 506,183. There were 1,951 COVID-19 patients in hospital (4 less than yesterday - down 0.2%), 431 COVID-19 patients in ICUs (13 more than yesterday - up 3.1%) and 278 COVID-19 patients on ventilators (intubated) (7 less than yesterday - down 2.5%).
Of the four overview trends (formerly the Page 2 "key metrics"), the 7-day average of newly confirmed cases is 3,011.0 (305 less than yesterday - down 9.2%), 1,817% above the lowest observed value of 157.0 on 7/4/2020 and 52.0% below the highest observed value of 6,239.0 on 1/8/2021. The 7-day weighted average of positive molecular test rate is 4.77% (0 less than yesterday - down 1.1%), 519% above the lowest observed value of 0.8% on 9/21/2020 and 83% below the highest observed value of 27.7% on 4/15/2020. The 7-day average number of COVID-19 patients in hospital is 2,072.0 (32 less than yesterday - down 1.5%), 1,236% above the lowest observed value of 155.0 on 8/26/2020 and 47% below the highest observed value of 3,874.0 on 4/27/2020. The 7-day average number of COVID-19 deaths is 55.0 (3 less than yesterday - down 5.2%), 400% above the lowest observed value of 11.0 on 9/9/2020 and 69% below the highest observed value of 175.0 on 4/24/2020.
Statewide, hospitals reported 9,141 non-ICU beds, of which 6,294 (68.9%) were occupied by non-COVID patients, 1,520 (16.6%) were occupied by COVID patients, and 1,327 (14.5%) remained available. Hospitals also reported 1,478 ICU beds, of which 745 (50.4%) were occupied by non-COVID patients, 431 (29.2%) were occupied by COVID patients, and 302 (20.4%) remained available. By comparison, hospitals reported yesterday a total of 9,162 non-ICU beds, of which 6,213 (67.8%) were occupied by non-COVID patients, 1,537 (17%) were occupied by COVID patients, and 1,412 (15.4%) remained available. Hospitals also reported yesterday a total of 1,472 ICU beds, of which 742 (50.4%) were occupied by non-COVID patients, 418 (28.4%) were occupied by COVID patients, and 312 (21.2%) remained available.
Two weeks ago, the 7 day confirmed case average was 4,339.0, the 7 day confirmed deaths average was 64.0, the 7 day hospitalization average was 2,311.0, and the 7 day weighted average positivity rate was 7.45% (or 8.54% excluding higher education).

Whoa. That's a big drop in day-to-day cases, and one I can't readily discount as due to wonky weekend reporting. (If anything, I'd expect a Tuesday report to be higher, on the assumption that cases not reported to the state over Saturday and Sunday would show up by now.) Not happy with the uptick in ICU load, but I am pleased to see that the seven-day positivity average continues to tick downward. Hopefully the longer-term trends will continue to improve.
The town of Acton's current Google Data Studio dashboard is showing 39 active and 663 cumulative cases as of January 25. The most recent "newsflash style update" at 1:30PM on January 25, 2021 reported 655 cumulative cases with 49 individuals in isolation, 575 persons recovered and 31 fatalities.
