As of 5PM today, the Commonwealth of Massachusetts is reporting 60 newly reported confirmed deaths (13 more than yesterday - up 27.7%) for a total of 11,465 deaths, 4,162 newly reported confirmed cases (167 more than yesterday - up 4.2%) for a total of 311,090 cases, and 90,789 newly reported molecular tests (10,575 more than yesterday - up 13.2%). The seven day average positivity rate is 5.78%, compared to 6.01% yesterday. Excluding higher education, the seven day average positivity rate is 7.53%, compared to 7.79% yesterday. The number of estimated active cases was 82,617 (1,335 more than yesterday - up 1.6%). The state also reported zero newly reported probable deaths (same as yesterday) for a total of 252 and 99 newly reported probable cases (250 less than yesterday - down 71.6%) for a total of 12,441. Combining the confirmed and probable numbers gives 60 new deaths for a total of 11,717 and 4,261 new cases for a total of 323,531. There were 1,919 COVID-19 patients in hospital (8 less than yesterday - down 0.4%), 387 COVID-19 patients in ICUs (4 more than yesterday - up 1.0%) and 205 COVID-19 patients on ventilators (intubated) (9 more than yesterday - up 4.6%).

Of the Commonwealth's four "key metrics" listed on page 2 of the report, the 7-day average of newly confirmed cases is 3,259 (185 more than yesterday - up 6.0%), 1,975% above the lowest observed value of 157 on July 4 and 32% below the highest observed value of 4,779 on December 7. The 7-day weighted average of positive molecular test rate is 5.8% (0 less than yesterday - down 3.9%), 650% above the lowest observed value of 0.8% on September 21 and 79% below the highest observed value of 27.7% on April 15. The 7-day average number of COVID-19 patients in hospital is 1,866 (30 more than yesterday - up 1.6%), 1,103% above the lowest observed value of 155 on August 26 and 52% below the highest observed value of 3,874 on April 27. The 7-day average number of COVID-19 deaths is 47 (3 more than yesterday - up 6.8%), 327% above the lowest observed value of 11 on September 9 and 74% below the highest observed value of 175 on April 24.

Two weeks ago, the 7 day confirmed case average was 3,406, the 7 day confirmed deaths average was 36, the 7 day hospitalization average was 1,312, and the 7 day weighted average positivity rate was 5.3% (or 7.38% excluding higher education).

Not great news today; day-to-day cases and deaths are up, but positivity is down, so that's something. The total number of COVID-19 patients in hospital is down slightly, but the ICU and ventilator counts are both up. And all these numbers are still way, way too damn high.

The town of Acton's current Google Data Studio dashboard does not appear to have been updated today; it is still showing the December 18 numbers of 69 active and 463 cumulative cases. The most recent "newsflash style update" at 9PM on December 15 reported 433 cumulative cases with 63 individuals in isolation, 345 persons recovered and 25 fatalities.
