Local COVID-19 updates
Nov. 7th, 2020 09:51 pmA little bit of output from the code dealing with the radically changed data formats! Not nearly as far along as I'd like, in part because the new formats mean new surprising ways for things to not be as documented, and the only way to find them is to run the data through nominally good code and see what breaks. In particular, I don't have the longer-term average calculations in place; on the other hand, part of why I was writing that code was because the state wasn't providing trends in the dashboard, and now they are.
Anyhow, how about a narrative? As of 5PM today, the Commonwealth of Massachusetts is reporting 23 newly reported confirmed deaths (2 more than yesterday - up 9.5%) for a total of 9,903 deaths and 2,200 newly reported confirmed cases (162 more than yesterday - up 7.9%) for a total of 164,936 cases. The seven day average positivity rate is 2.27%, compared to 2.20% yesterday, while the number of estimated active cases was 20,720 (1,354 more than yesterday - up 7.0%). There were 535 COVID-19 patients in hospital (22 more than yesterday - up 4.3%) and 127 COVID-19 patients in ICUs (9 more than yesterday - up 7.6%).
Well, to put things bluntly, those day-to-day changes still suck. We haven't had that many newly reported cases in one day since April 25, when the state dashboard listed 2,379. I suppose the good news is that we don't have nearly the same hospitalization and death rates today as we did then; on the other hand, we were on a general improving trend from a catastrophic peak back in late April. Now the trendlines are going in bad directions. Not good news.
The town of Acton has yet to post an update today. As of the most recent report at 8:30PM on November 4, the town of Acton reported 240 cumulative cases of COVID-19 in town with 16 individuals in isolation, 203 recovered and 21 fatalities.
