As of 6PM today, the Commonwealth of Massachusetts is reporting 26 newly reported confirmed deaths (14 more than yesterday - up 116.7%) for a total of 8,755 deaths, 315 newly reported confirmed cases (34 less than yesterday - down 9.7%) for a total of 117,085 cases, and 19,744 new patients tested by molecular tests (3,030 less than yesterday - down 13.3%) for a total of 1,624,496 individuals tested, with a total of 2,194,342 molecular tests administered to date. The ratio of newly confirmed cases to individuals tested by molecular test is 1.6%, compared to 1.5% yesterday. The state also reported 844 patients tested by antibody tests (447 more than yesterday - up 112.6%) for a total of 110,379 and 2,144 patients tested by antigen tests (87 less than yesterday - down 3.9%) for a total of 82,123.

The seven day average number of newly confirmed cases per day is 339.5 compared to 264.3 last week (up 28.5%) and 261.0 two weeks ago (up 30.1%). The seven day average number of newly confirmed deaths per day is 18.3 compared to 14.0 last week (up 31.0%) and 15.6 two weeks ago (up 17.7%). The seven day average number of molecular tests per day is 22,870.5 compared to 19,139.1 last week (up 19.5%) and 14,568.1 two weeks ago (up 57.0%). The seven day average percentage of tests coming back positive per day is 1.5% compared to 1.4% last week and 1.8% two weeks ago. (The above averages are calculated from today's raw data download.)

Lower day-to-day case counts are always good, but not the drop in molecular tests. The upward ticks in deaths and percent-positive ratio aren't any good, either. I'm even less happy that the seven-day averages are all trending badly, except for test counts.

Today being Wednesday, the state also released its Weekly COVID-19 Public Health Report - and they changed the risk color codes. Now less than five total cases in the previous two weeks is being coded as gray, not white. (Sigh.) My town of Acton is listed as having 187 cases, with a two week case count of 11 new cases in the last fourteen days (higher than last week), a daily incidence rate of 3.3 new cases per day per 100k population in the last fourteen days and a risk color code of green. Acton is also listed as having 6,074 total tests, with 1,157 total tests and 12 positive tests in the last fourteen days, for a percent positive rate of 1.04% over the last fourteen days, which is higher than last week. The state is listed as having 117,085 cases, with a two week case count of 3851 new cases in the last fourteen days (higher than last week), a daily incidence rate of 4.0 new cases per day per 100k population in the last fourteen days and a risk color code of yellow. The state is also listed as having 2,194,344 total tests, with 371,310 total tests and 4,729 positive tests in the last fourteen days, for a percent positive rate of 1.30% over the last fourteen days, which is lower than last week.

Of the 351 cities and towns in the commonwwealth, 230 are coded gray, 82 coded green, and 30 coded yellow. The remaining 9 cities/towns are coded red (high-risk; more than 8.0 daily cases per 100k population): Brockton, Chelsea, Everett, Framingham, Lawrence, Lynn, Revere, Sutton, and Winthrop. (Note that particularly small towns, with more than eight cases per 100k population but less than five cases total, are coded as gray.)

The town of Acton has yet to post an update today. As of the most recent report at 3:30PM on August 24, the town of Acton reported 195 cumulative cases of COVID-19 in town with 6 individuals in isolation, 168 recovered and 21 fatalities.
