As of 4PM today, the Commonwealth of Massachusetts is reporting 14 newly reported confirmed deaths (for a total of 8,331), 178 newly reported confirmed cases (for a total of 108,740), and 9,881 new patients tested by molecular tests (for a total of 1,133,674), with a total of 1,468,395 molecular tests administered to date. The ratio of newly confirmed cases to individuals tested by molecular test is 1.8%. The state also reported 1 newly reported probable death (for a total of 220), 78 newly reported probable cases (for a total of 7,442), and 460 patients tested by antibody tests (for a total of 93,124). Combining the confirmed and probable numbers gives 15 new deaths (for a total of 8,551) and 256 new cases (for a total of 116,182).

Another mixed bag on a day-by-day basis: cases down, which is always good, but tests down by the same proportion. The percent-positivity rate held constant, but deaths were up quite a bit compared to yesterday, and the number of hospitals using surge capacity jumped back up to four.

As I noted yesterday, there's been an uptick in case counts over the last few weeks. However, it's not obvious from the daily dashboard, since that's not a metric it directly displays. I can, however, calculate seven-day averages for deaths, cases, tests and percent-positive from the raw data. The seven day average number of newly confirmed cases per day is 217.0 compared to 176.4 last week and 169.6 two weeks ago. The seven day average number of newly confirmed deaths per day is 14.3 compared to 15.1 last week and 18.1 two weeks ago. The seven day average number of molecular tests per day is 11,615.0 compared to 11,471.3 last week and 10,121.3 two weeks ago. The seven day average percentage of tests coming back positive per day is 1.9% compared to 1.6% last week and 1.7% two weeks ago.

The good news there is that the death counts are definitely dropping over time, and the number of tests being conducted appears to be coming up slowly. However, the case counts are definitely on the upswing; more worrying is the fact that the percent-positive rate is going up as well.

As of 3PM today, the town of Acton is reporting 183 cumulative cases of COVID-19 in town with 4 individuals in isolation, 158 recovered and 21 fatalities.
