Avatar the movie

I just got back from seeing the movie Avatar with some friends. That is one stunningly beautiful film. There are luminescent forests, and flying mountains, and the Na'vi look (and move) like real live actor-type people. Twelve-foot-tall people with bluish skin and tails, mind you, but people nonetheless.
On the other hand, if you're looking for even a decent story to go with the gorgeous cinematography ... well, too bad. Sleazy Planetary Manager is sleazy, Crusty Colonel is crusty, Dumb Jarhead is dumb. The plot literally revolves around unobtainium mining. (Yes, that's what they call it: unobtainium.) And let's not even broach that whole Noble Savage theme.
It's a gorgeous movie. Just turn your brain off and enjoy the view.
