Local COVID-19 updates

Today is Tuesday, also known as the day of the week the state really messes up day-to-day comparisons. Deaths are way up, but that's to be expected given today's death report covers three days and yesterday's covered one; meanwhile, cases are way down, but that's to be expected given today's cases (and tests) counts cover one day and yesterday's covered three. The bad news is that today's 2,909 newly reported confirmed case count is the worst single-day Tuesday count since 7,120 new cases were reported all the way back on January 25. (April 19 and February 22 had higher numbers, but were the first report after three-day weekends.) Hospitalizations are also up a lot; at 702, it's the first time breaking the seven-hundred mark since 719 were reported on February 18. The seven-day cases average actually ticked down slightly, courtesy of the way the state calculates that average more than any actual reduction in case rates; the other three seven-day averages are all up, which is really not what anyone ever likes to see. The statewide percent-positive rate is up to 7.58% and is over ten percent in Berkshire and Nantucket Counties.
