Yuck. Sure, the raw number of deaths is down from yesterday, but yesterday's report covered four days of data; today's 86 newly reported confirmed deaths are the highest single-day count since 87 were reported on February 12, 2021. Newly reported confirmed cases are down a tiny bit, but are still over fourteen thousand per day. More encouragingly, hospitalizations are down compared to yesterday (although still way too damn high). The seven-day hospitalization average is up slightly, but the others are all down, with cases below ten thousand and percent-positive down to 15.03%. The weekly city/town data is still horrible.

I don't know how official this could claim to be, but the Boston Globe is now reporting that the current surge of COVID-19 cases has peaked in Massachusetts:

Of course, we still have to get the current wave through the healthcare system. And there's at least one new variant potentially raising its ugly head. But there may actually be a break coming.

The town of Acton's current Google Data Studio dashboard is showing 163 active and 2,456 cumulative cases as of January 19. The most recent "newsflash style update" at 7PM on December 21, 2021, the town reported 1538 cumulative cases with 89 individuals in isolation, 1417 recovered and 32 fatalities.
