Local COVID-19 updates
Jan. 11th, 2022 05:39 pm( Wall-o-text, covering 3 days of death data )
Some actually hopeful numbers today. Deaths are way up, but Tuesday reports cover Saturday through Monday nowadays; thus today's 116 newly reported deaths average out to "only" 38.7 deaths per day, which is actually down from yesterday's report of 53. Cases are way down, and that holds even given yesterday's case/testing data covered three days. Alas, not all the day-over-day comparisons are good: hospitalizations are up yet again, with today's 2,970 patients in hospital being the highest reported since 3,101 were reported on May 13, 2020. The seven-day averages are a mixed bag; cases and deaths are down compared to yesterday, but percent-positive ticked up again and hospitalizations keep climbing. Another bit of possible good news is that the latest Boston wastewater sample data is showing SARS-CoV-2 viral levels starting to drop over the last few days.
Overall, the absolute numbers continue to be horrifically high, and hospitalizations in particular continue to rise. However, we may actually be starting to get over the peak of new infections.
The town of Acton's current Google Data Studio dashboard is showing 122 active and 2,108 cumulative cases as of January 10. The most recent "newsflash style update" at 7PM on December 21, 2021, the town reported 1538 cumulative cases with 89 individuals in isolation, 1417 recovered and 32 fatalities.
