Local COVID-19 updates
Aug. 24th, 2020 04:41 pmWell, it looks like the state's upgrade worked; there wasn't a report yesterday, but there's a doozy today.
As of 4PM today, the Commonwealth of Massachusetts is reporting 27 newly reported confirmed deaths (7 more than Saturday - up 35.0%) for a total of 8,717 deaths, 571 newly reported confirmed cases (462 more than Saturday - up 423.9%) for a total of 116,421 cases, and 37,815 new patients tested by molecular tests (29,514 more than Saturday - up 355.5%) for a total of 1,581,978 individuals tested, with a total of 2,122,991 molecular tests administered to date. The ratio of newly confirmed cases to individuals tested by molecular test is 1.5%, compared to 1.3% Saturday. The state also reported 795 patients tested by antibody tests (463 more than Saturday - up 139.5%) for a total of 109,138 and 3,142 patients tested by antigen tests (3,021 more than Saturday - up 2,496.7%) for a total of 77,748.
The seven day average number of newly confirmed cases per day is 301.7 compared to 276.9 last week (up 9.0%) and 296.9 two weeks ago (up 1.6%). The seven day average number of newly confirmed deaths per day is 17.7 compared to 13.1 last week (up 34.4%) and 13.1 two weeks ago (up 34.4%). The seven day average number of molecular tests per day is 20,977.7 compared to 19,068.3 last week (up 10.0%) and 14,834.9 two weeks ago (up 41.4%). The seven day average percentage of tests coming back positive per day is 1.4% compared to 1.5% last week and 2.0% two weeks ago. (The above averages are calculated from today's raw data download.)
Deaths, cases and new tests are all for the period of 5PM 8/21 through 8AM 8/24, courtesy of the weekend's reporting system upgrade and associated outage:
As of 3:30PM today, the town of Acton is reporting 195 cumulative cases of COVID-19 in town with 6 individuals in isolation, 168 recovered and 21 fatalities; that's six new cases and three persons recovered since the last update on August 17. No new deaths, which is always good to hear.

PLEASE NOTE: Due to the planned upgrade by DPH of its electronic laboratory reporting system during the weekend of August 22-23, today’s data report includes information reported to DPH over the weekend (from 5PM Friday 8/21 through 8AM Monday 8/24) and so numbers are higher than usual. All that being said, I am a bit concerned that the "day-to-day" percent-positive ratio is up compared to Saturday's number. I'm also concerned that the average number of cases and deaths per day over the last seven days are trending upward (the noise from the weekend outage shouldn't affect those averages).
