Local COVID-19 updates
Jul. 20th, 2020 05:28 pmAs of 4PM today, the Commonwealth of Massachusetts is reporting 1 newly reported confirmed death (for a total of 8,214), 174 newly reported confirmed cases (for a total of 107,056), and 10,665 new patients tested by molecular tests (for a total of 1,044,548), with a total of 1,342,652 molecular tests administered to date. The ratio of newly confirmed cases to individuals tested by molecular test is 1.6%. The state also reported 1 newly reported probable death (for a total of 219), 81 newly reported probable cases (for a total of 6,733), and 268 patients tested by antibody tests (for a total of 86,433). Combining the confirmed and probable numbers gives 2 new deaths (for a total of 8,433) and 255 new cases (for a total of 113,789).
Today's the day after a weekend, so I take the drops in cases and deaths with a bit of a grain of salt; however, a drop to only one confirmed death is certainly good news. (Probable cases and tests both dropped, but the percent-positive rate stayed constant.) The three-day average number of COVID-19 patients in hospital dropped below 500 for ths first time in what seems like forever, and is certainly the lowest since the state started reporting that rate on May 18). In less-great news, the number of hospitals using surge capacity ticked back up to two, and the probable case and death counts ticked up slightly (one death, three cases).
The town of Acton has yet to post an update today. As of the most recent report at 12:30PM on July 16, the town reported 180 cumulative cases of COVID-19 in Acton with 3 individuals in isolation, 156 recovered and 21 fatalities.
