Local COVID-19 updates
Jun. 22nd, 2020 10:13 pmAs of 4PM today, the Commonwealth of Massachusetts is reporting 17 newly reported confirmed COVID-19 deaths (for a total of 7,694 confirmed deaths), 136 newly reported confirmed cases (for a total of 102,469) and 6,730 new patients tested by molecular tests (for a total of 775,322), with a total of 975,415 molecular tests administered to date. The ratio of newly confirmed cases to individuals tested by molecular test is 2.0%. The state also reported zero newly reported probable deaths (the total dropped by one, to 180), 13 newly reported probable cases (for a total of 4,741), and 326 patients tested by antibody tests (for a total of 64,592). In total, the state reported 17 new deaths (for a total of 7,874) and 149 new cases (for a total of 107,210).
It's good to see deaths going down, but we tend to see things dropping on Monday and then going back up on Tuesday or Wednesday. I'm much less happy about tests going down and cases going up. Even worse, the percent-positive test rate went up, and the three-day average death count ticked up for the first time in a week.
Meanwhile, indoor dining, tattoo parlors and nail salons (among others) were allowed to reopen today, for the first time since the pandemic struck. And the MBTA boosted subway, bus and commuter rail services substantially. It's a moot point for me personally, as the Current Paying Gig isn't one I can get to by train; but I did notice that the current Fitchburg Line schedule doesn't include any of the peak-hour expresses or short-turns that were a feature of the line back in, say, February.
As of 6:30PM today, the town of Acton is reporting 173 cumulative cases with 3 individuals in isolation, 149 persons recovered and 21 fatalities. That's the first new case in five days.
