The "privilege" meme, as seen in the LJs of [livejournal.com profile] prophet_marcus , [livejournal.com profile] bkwrrm_tx , [livejournal.com profile] starcat_jewel and others:
This particular meme apparently originated on the Social Class and Quakers blog back in November. The blogger, Jeanne, says:
It's based on an exercise developed by Will Barratt, Meagan Cahill, Angie Carlen, Minnette Huck, Drew Lurker, Stacy Ploskonka at Illinois State University that I found on this Yahoo group around class on college campuses. The exercise developers hold the copyright but have given me permission to post it here and ask that if you participate in this blog game, you acknowledge their copyright.
So, onto the meme; the items bolded below apply to me.
Father went to college
Father finished college
Mother went to college
Mother finished college

Notes:
[1] Specifically, my father was an MIT professor; in fact, he was a Great Educator.
[2] As far as I can tell, white middle-aged white guys who happen to be computer geeks are portrayed more or less positively.
[3] I grew up in a community which was in the midst of transitioning from being primarily truck farms to being more or less an upscale suburb. I'm not sure there were any multi-family dwellings in town when my parents moved in (with the exception of a few mother-in-law apartments).
[4] It was a beat-up old box that a particularly handy friend of mine found at the town dump and resurrected. But it was a television.
[5] We sailed across the Atlantic on the SS France, back when she was still in regular trans-Atlantic service; I presume that counts as a "cruise" in the context of this meme.

I haven't found anyplace that claims to relate the number of bolded items to any particular measure of privilege. OTOH, I'm sure I'd qualify as having grown up rather privileged.
