Oct. 6th, 2021 07:09 pmAs of 5PM today, the Commonwealth of Massachusetts is reporting 27 newly reported confirmed deaths (6 more than yesterday - up 28.6%) for a total of 18,320 deaths, 1,492 newly reported confirmed cases (308 more than yesterday - up 26.0%) for a total of 765,351 cases, and 101,368 newly reported molecular tests (46,771 more than yesterday - up 85.7%).The seven day average positivity rate is 1.83%, compared to 1.79% yesterday. The state also reported zero newly reported probable deaths (same as yesterday) for a total of 387 and 157 newly reported probable cases (1 more than yesterday - up 0.6%) for a total of 54,588. Combining the confirmed and probable numbers gives 27 new deaths for a total of 18,707 and 1,649 new cases for a total of 819,939. There were 589 COVID-19 patients in hospital (5 more than yesterday - up 0.9%), 156 COVID-19 patients in ICUs (10 less than yesterday - down 6.0%) and 88 COVID-19 patients on ventilators (intubated) (4 less than yesterday - down 4.3%).
Of the four overview trends (formerly the Page 2 "key metrics"), the 7-day average of newly confirmed cases is 970.0 (1 more than yesterday - up 0.1%), 1,415% above the lowest observed value of 64.0 on 6/25/2021 and 85.0% below the highest observed value of 6,231.0 on 1/8/2021. The 7-day weighted average of positive molecular test rate is 1.83% (0 more than yesterday - up 2.5%), 494% above the lowest observed value of 0.3% on 6/25/2021 and 93% below the highest observed value of 27.7% on 4/15/2020. The 7-day average number of COVID-19 patients in hospital is 602.0 (7 less than yesterday - down 1.1%), 608% above the lowest observed value of 85.0 on 7/9/2021 and 85% below the highest observed value of 3,874.0 on 4/27/2020. The 7-day average number of COVID-19 deaths is 12.0 (1 more than yesterday - up 9.1%), 1,100% above the lowest observed value of 1.0 on 7/11/2021 and 94% below the highest observed value of 175.0 on 4/24/2020.
Statewide, hospitals reported 8,913 non-ICU beds, of which 7,687 (86.2%) were occupied by non-COVID patients, 433 (4.9%) were occupied by COVID patients, and 793 (8.9%) remained available. Hospitals also reported 1,276 ICU beds, of which 889 (69.7%) were occupied by non-COVID patients, 156 (12.2%) were occupied by COVID patients, and 231 (18.1%) remained available. By comparison, hospitals reported yesterday a total of 8,801 non-ICU beds, of which 7,412 (84.2%) were occupied by non-COVID patients, 418 (5%) were occupied by COVID patients, and 971 (11.0%) remained available. Hospitals also reported yesterday a total of 1,250 ICU beds, of which 830 (66.4%) were occupied by non-COVID patients, 166 (13.3%) were occupied by COVID patients, and 254 (20.3%) remained available.
Two weeks ago, the 7 day confirmed case average was 1,206.0, the 7 day confirmed deaths average was 10.0, the 7 day hospitalization average was 666.0, and the 7 day weighted average positivity rate was 2.14%.

Well, this stinks. Deaths up again day-to-day (tying last Wednesday's total of 27), cases up again day-to-day, hospitalizations up day-to-day. The seven-day average for patients in hospital ticked down a tad compared to yesterday, but the averages for deaths, cases and percent-positive are all up. This surge isn't over yet. And winter is coming.
The town of Acton's current Google Data Studio dashboard is showing 27 active and 1,155 cumulative cases as of October 5. The most recent "newsflash style update" at 11:45AM on May 28, 2021 reported 978 cumulative cases with 3 individuals in isolation, 943 persons recovered and 32 fatalities.
