Deaths down compared to yesterday, which frankly I'd expect given that yesterday's number covered three days (including the weekend). On the other hand, today's deaths number is a big jump over the average of those three days. On the gripping hand, weekend reporting has frequently stunk throughout this pandemic, so I've gotten used to random leaps for post-weekend counts. Cases are down, which is encouraging; hospitalizations are up slightly, which is not encouraging at all. Three of the four seven-day averages are down, and one (deaths) held steady.

I'll confess to being slightly underwhelmed by today's newly announced National COVID-19 Preparedness Plan (21.2MB PDF). It consists mostly of things that "The Administration will work with Congress to secure the funding for", rather than things the Adminstration can or is doing right now. Given how little interest the Senate, in particular, has shown in passing legislation that could be perceived as a "win" for the Biden Adminstration, I'm dubious that there'll be a whole lot of funding secured. (The PDF file also doesn't appear to support selecting text, which seems ... an odd choice to make.)

I'll also note some annoyance with the new COVID-19 by County page that the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention rolled out last Friday. My specific annoyance right now isn't so much the new criteria as the fact that the data haven't been updated since that initial rollout. The COVID-19 Integrated County View page (which allows looking up community transmission by county), on the other hand, is up-to-date as of yesterday at 8PM. That's not really what I'd call helpful for someone trying to track what's going on.

The town of Acton's current Google Data Studio dashboard is showing 14 active and 2,782 cumulative cases as of March 1. The most recent "newsflash style update" at 7PM on December 21, 2021, the town reported 1538 cumulative cases with 89 individuals in isolation, 1417 recovered and 32 fatalities.
