Local COVID-19 updates
Jan. 7th, 2022 05:38 pm( Wall-o-text, with 26k cases and 23% positive )
Yet another day of things getting worse and often setting records. Today's 55 deaths are the highest reported or a single day since 66 were reported on March 3, 2021, as last winter's surge was tapering off. (The last four Tuesdays have had higher amounts, but those reports covered multiple days of deaths.) Today's cases are also up compared to yesterday, although not quite to the point of setting a single-day record. Hospitalizations are up once again, with today's census of 2,637 patients being the highest reported since 2,692 on May 16, 2020, just past the peak of the initial wave. The seven day averages continue marching upward, setting new highest-observed-values for daily case averages and breaking 23% for percent-positive (today's reported value is 23.02%).
Also probably worth noting: today, most of Massachusetts was being hit by the first significant snowstorm of the season. I'd expect today's test and case counts to be impacted due to weather-related difficulties in getting to testing sites (as compared to the ongoing difficulties with finding available tests in the first place). Of course, the state won't be releasing any numbers until Monday ...
The town of Acton's current Google Data Studio dashboard is showing 151 active and 1,953 cumulative cases as of January 6. The most recent "newsflash style update" at 7PM on December 21, 2021, the town reported 1538 cumulative cases with 89 individuals in isolation, 1417 recovered and 32 fatalities.
