Local COVID-19 updates

There's bad news, and not quite so bad news, in the day-over-day case numbers. The bad news is that cases are way up. The not quite so bad news is that, averaged out over the three days of this reporting period, the average number of new cases is a bit down from Friday. However, an average of "only" 684 new cases per day is still way, way higher than back in late June. Further bad news comes from the continuing growth in hospitalizations, and the continued upticks in the seven-day averages for cases, hospitalizations and percent-positive. The absolute numbers of hospitalizations and deaths are still relatively low, but the case and hospitalization trends are still scary.
Today's Covid Data Tracker from the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) is showing Massachusetts as having "substantial" statewide community transmission today, with 66.7 cases per 100k population in the last week (as of Sunday, thus not including today's numbers). At a county-by-county level, one Massachusetts county has low community transmission (Franklin), three counties have moderate transmission (Hampshire, Dukes, and Berkshire), seven have substantial transmission (Norfolk, Essex, Worcester, Middlesex, Plymouth, Hampden, and Suffolk) and two have high transmission (Barnstable and Nantucket). According to the CDC'scurrent guidance, that means everyone (vaccinated or not) should be masked up in public indoor settings here in Massachusetts (or, if you're looking county-by-county, in most of the state).
I haven't seen any reports yet of how (or if) Governor Charlie Baker is reacting to these numbers.
The town of Acton's current Google Data Studio dashboard is showing 5 active and 1,000 cumulative cases as of July 31. The most recent "newsflash style update" at 11:45AM on May 28, 2021 reported 978 cumulative cases with 3 individuals in isolation, 943 persons recovered and 32 fatalities.
