The day-to-day comparisons are pretty good - deaths, cases and percent-positivity all down from yesterday, as are the total number of COVID-19 patients in hospital and the number on ventilators. However, today is Sunday, which often means that case counts (in particular) are depressed by fewer tests being reported on weekends (and, hey, guess what? Molecular tests are also down a bunch! Surprise!). In less cheerful news, the estimated active case count continues to rise, and the raw number of cases is still above four thousand per day (far higher than the hundreds per day of midsummer), and we're still tight on hospital space.

In even less cheerful news, the new, highly-contagious B.1.1.7 variant of the coronavirus has officially been detected in Massachusetts:

I can't say I'm surprised, although the fact that the infected person had just flown in from the UK might indicate that B.1.1.7 isn't yet circulating in the community in general. Keep those masks on, folks!

The town of Acton's current Google Data Studio dashboard is showing 68 active and 631 cumulative cases as of January 16. The most recent "newsflash style update" at 10:30PM on January 13, 2021 reported 596 cumulative cases with 62 individuals in isolation, 504 persons recovered and 30 fatalities.
