As of 5PM today, the Commonwealth of Massachusetts is reporting 89 newly reported confirmed deaths (49 more than yesterday - up 122.5%) for a total of 10,922 deaths, 5,675 newly reported confirmed cases (2,048 more than yesterday - up 56.5%) for a total of 259,324 cases, and 109,009 newly reported molecular tests (50,508 more than yesterday - up 86.3%). The seven day average positivity rate is 5.86%, compared to 5.81% yesterday. Excluding higher education, the seven day average positivity rate is 7.90%, compared to 7.76% yesterday. The number of estimated active cases was 61,181 (2,580 more than yesterday - up 4.4%). The state also reported 1 newly reported probable death (same as yesterday) for a total of 244 and 290 newly reported probable cases (205 less than yesterday - down 41.4%) for a total of 10,088. Combining the confirmed and probable numbers gives 90 new deaths for a total of 11,166 and 5,965 new cases for a total of 269,412. There were 1,576 COVID-19 patients in hospital (24 more than yesterday - up 1.5%), 308 COVID-19 patients in ICUs (2 less than yesterday - down 0.6%) and 162 COVID-19 patients on ventilators (intubated) (4 less than yesterday - down 2.4%).

Today being Wednesday, the weekly data points were also updated. The average age of hospitalized patients over the past week is 69 (1 more than last week - up 1.5%) while the average age of deaths over the last two weeks is 82 (1 more than last week - up 1.2%). The fourteen-day average test turnaround time (from sample draw to DPH report) is 2.00 (compared to 2.10 last week). The average daily incidence per 100k population over the last 14 days is 50.0 (compared to 35.7 last week).

Of the Commonwealth's four "key metrics" listed on page 2 of the report, the 7-day average of newly confirmed cases is 3,244 (3 less than yesterday - down 0.1%), 1,966% above the lowest observed value of 157 on July 4 and 29% below the highest observed value of 4,548 on December 4. The 7-day weighted average of positive molecular test rate is 5.9% (0 more than yesterday - up 0.8%), 656% above the lowest observed value of 0.8% on September 21 and 79% below the highest observed value of 27.7% on April 15. The 7-day average number of COVID-19 patients in hospital is 1,458 (45 more than yesterday - up 3.2%), 840% above the lowest observed value of 155 on August 26 and 63% below the highest observed value of 3,874 on April 27. The 7-day average number of COVID-19 deaths is 43 (7 more than yesterday - up 19.4%), 290% above the lowest observed value of 11 on September 9 and 76% below the highest observed value of 175 on April 24.

Two weeks ago, the 7 day confirmed case average was 1,781, the 7 day confirmed deaths average was 25, the 7 day hospitalization average was 918, and the 7 day weighted average positivity rate was 3.0% (or 4.60% excluding higher education).

Not quite a record number of newly reported cases (that was 6,477 on December 3), but still way, way up from yesterday and the day before. Deaths also way up; this is the highest daily number since 93 deaths on May 28. Positivity is up again as well, as are hospitalizations. And the fourteen-day average daily incidence is way up compared to last Wednesday.

The big news today was the state's announcing its COVID-19 vaccine plan. Phase 1 involves healthcare workers, first responders (police/fire/EMS) and folks in congregate care settings (long term care, rest homes, corrections facilities, etc.) and starts as soon as the state starts getting vaccine shipped from the Feds. Folks with co-morbid conditions, "essential workers" (education, transit, grocery, utility, etc.) and adults 65+; this is expected to start in February 2021. Phase 3 is everyone else; this phase is expected to start in April 2021.

The town of Acton's current Google Data Studio dashboard is showing 63 active and 392 cumulative cases as of December 8. The most recent "newsflash style update" at 4PM on December 8 reported 389 cumulative cases with 60 individuals in isolation, 307 persons recovered and 22 fatalities.
