Local COVID-19 updates
Nov. 15th, 2020 05:14 pmAs of 5PM today, the Commonwealth of Massachusetts is reporting 33 newly reported confirmed deaths (6 more than yesterday - up 22.2%) for a total of 10,098 and 2,076 newly reported confirmed cases (765 less than yesterday - down 26.9%) for a total of 182,544. The seven day average positivity rate is 3.06%, compared to 3.10% yesterday. Excluding higher education, the seven day average positivity rate is 5.16%, compared to 5.18% yesterday. The number of estimated active cases was 30,374 (1,292 more than yesterday - up 4.4%). The state also reported 3 newly reported probable deaths (2 more than yesterday - up 200.0%) for a total of 231 and 57 newly reported probable cases (149 less than yesterday - down 72.3%) for a total of 5,731. Combining the confirmed and probable numbers gives 36 new deaths for a total of 10,329 and 2,133 new cases for a total of 188,275. There were 737 COVID-19 patients in hospital (32 more than yesterday - up 4.5%), 159 COVID-19 patients in ICUs (8 more than yesterday - up 5.3%) and 70 COVID-19 patients on ventilators (intubated) (1 less than yesterday - down 1.4%).
Of the Commonwealth's four "key metrics" listed on page 2 of the report, the 7-day average of newly confirmed cases is 1,772, 1,028% above the lowest observed value of 157 on July 4 and 23% below the highest observed value of 2,300 on April 20. The 7-day weighted average of positive molecular test rate is 3.1%, 295% above the lowest observed value of 0.8% on September 21 and 89% below the highest observed value of 27.6% on April 15. The 7-day average number of COVID-19 patients in hospital is 665, 329% above the lowest observed value of 155 on August 26 and 83% below the highest observed value of 3,874 on April 27. The 7-day average number of COVID-19 deaths is 23, 109% above the lowest observed value of 11 on September 9. and 87% below the highest observed value of 175 on April 24.
Another mixed bag day-to-day, with cases down quite a bit but deaths up quite a bit; I'm more than a bit suspicious that the case count drop is in part due to today being Sunday, with weekend reporting sometimes lagging. Estimated active cases keeps going up and up, as does the patients-in-hospital figures.
The front-page, above-the-fold article in today's Boston Sunday Globe? Massachusetts hospitals are more prepared for a second COVID-19 surge than they were for the first one:

The town of Acton has yet to post an update today. As of the most recent report at 10PM on November 10, the town of Acton reported 256 cumulative cases of COVID-19 in town with 23 individuals in isolation, 212 recovered and 21 fatalities.
