Local COVID-19 updates
Nov. 8th, 2020 05:20 pmSome more narrative tweaks as work continues on the code changes. One new data point added: the total number of folks on ventilators due to COVID-19.
As of 5PM today, the Commonwealth of Massachusetts is reporting 20 newly reported confirmed deaths (3 less than yesterday - down 13.0%) for a total of 9,923 and 1,809 newly reported confirmed cases (391 less than yesterday - down 17.8%) for a total of 166,745. The seven day average positivity rate is 2.27%, compared to 2.29% yesterday, while the number of estimated active cases was 22,023 (1,303 more than yesterday - up 6.3%). The state also reported zero newly reported probable deaths (same as yesterday) for a total of 226 and 14 newly reported confirmed cases (88 less than yesterday - down 86.3%) for a total of 4,654. Combining the confirmed and probable numbers gives 20 new deaths for a total of 10,149 and 1,823 new cases for a total of 171,399. There were 568 COVID-19 patients in hospital (33 more than yesterday - up 6.2%), 144 COVID-19 patients in ICUs (17 more than yesterday - up 13.4%) and 62 COVID-19 patients on ventilators (intubated) (2 more than yesterday - up 3.3%).
Day-to-day, new cases and new deaths are both down; however, it's Sunday and the reporting is notoriously irregular on the weekend. The fact that we still are way over a thousand new cases per day is frightening, and the continued upward trend in the hospitalization numbers is even more so. (Take a peek at the graph on page 13 of the dashboard, and note that slow but steady rise since the beginning of October.)
The town of Acton has yet to post an update today. As of the most recent report at 8:30PM on November 4, the town of Acton reported 240 cumulative cases of COVID-19 in town with 16 individuals in isolation, 203 recovered and 21 fatalities.
