As of 4PM today, the Commonwealth of Massachusetts is reporting 11 newly reported confirmed deaths (4 more than yesterday - up 57.1%) for a total of 9,118 deaths, 143 newly reported confirmed cases (101 less than yesterday - down 41.4%) for a total of 125,866 cases, and 9,135 new patients tested by molecular tests (1,688 less than yesterday - down 15.6%) for a total of 2,105,178 individuals tested, with a total of 3,476,679 molecular tests administered to date. The ratio of newly confirmed cases to individuals tested by molecular test is 1.6%, compared to 2.3% yesterday. The state also reported zero newly reported probable deaths (same as yesterday) for a total of 210 deaths, and 30 newly reported probable cases (18 more than yesterday - up 150.0%) for a total of 2,103 cases. The state also reported 83 patients tested by antibody tests (8 more than yesterday - up 10.7%) for a total of 118,447 patients, and 1,401 patients tested by antigen tests (279 more than yesterday - up 24.9%) for a total of 120,496 patients. Combining the confirmed and probable numbers gives 11 new deaths for a total of 9,328 and 173 new cases for a total of 127,969.

The seven day average number of newly confirmed cases per day is 348.7 compared to 315.9 last week (up 10.4%) and 296.6 two weeks ago (up 17.6%). The seven day average number of newly confirmed deaths per day is 14.6 compared to 11.9 last week (up 22.9%) and 14.6 two weeks ago. The seven day average number of molecular tests per day is 17,878.3 compared to 14,722.4 last week (up 21.4%) and 17,507.3 two weeks ago (up 2.1%). The seven day average percentage of tests coming back positive per day is 2.0% compared to 2.1% last week and 1.8% two weeks ago. (The above averages are calculated from today's raw data download.)

Of the Commonwealth's four "key metrics" listed on page 2 of the report, the seven-day weighted average positive test rate is 0.8%, 0% above the lowest observed value of 0.8% on September 21. The three-day average number of COVID-19 patients in hospital is 367, 21% above the lowest observed value of 302 on August 29. The number of hospitals using surge capacity is 1, 1 above the lowest observed value of 0 on September 5. The three-day average number of COVID-19 deaths is 11, 14% above the lowest observed value of 9 on September 7.

Day-to-day, deaths are up while tests are down, neither of which is terribly good; however, both cases and percent-positive are also down, which is good news. And three of the states's four "key metrics" are trending downward. The exception is the number of patients in hospital, which has been climbing for a week, and which bodes ill for the future death counts. The seven-day average number of new cases is also continuing to rise, while the seven-day average number of deaths is back where it was two weeks ago (and is climbing).

Oh, and based on Johns Hopkins' dashboard at https://coronavirus.jhu.edu/map.html? The US has now passed two hundred thousand known deaths from COVID-19:

As of 11:15AM today, the town of Acton is reporting 203 cumulative cases of COVID-19 in town with 2 individuals in isolation, 180 recovered and 21 fatalities; that's one more case, the same number of persons currently in isolation, and one more person recovered compared to the previous report on September 16. It is good to see that no new deaths from COVID-19 have occurred in town since May 21.
