As of 4PM today, the Commonwealth of Massachusetts is reporting 15 newly reported confirmed deaths (11 less than yesterday - down 42.3%) for a total of 9,100 deaths, 340 newly reported confirmed cases (229 less than yesterday - down 40.2%) for a total of 125,479 cases, and 17,399 new patients tested by molecular tests (3,899 less than yesterday - down 18.3%) for a total of 2,085,220 individuals tested, with a total of 3,399,512 molecular tests administered to date. The ratio of newly confirmed cases to individuals tested by molecular test is 2.0%, compared to 2.7% yesterday. The state also reported zero newly reported probable deaths (same as yesterday) for a total of 210 deaths, and 19 newly reported probable cases (11 less than yesterday - down 36.7%) for a total of 2,061 cases. The state also reported 220 patients tested by antibody tests (79 less than yesterday - down 26.4%) for a total of 118,289 patients, and 1,408 patients tested by antigen tests (5 more than yesterday - up 0.4%) for a total of 117,973 patients. Combining the confirmed and probable numbers gives 15 new deaths for a total of 9,310 and 359 new cases for a total of 127,540.

The seven day average number of newly confirmed cases per day is 367.9 compared to 297.1 last week (up 23.8%) and 334.4 two weeks ago (up 10.0%). The seven day average number of newly confirmed deaths per day is 14.1 compared to 12.0 last week (up 17.9%) and 14.4 two weeks ago (down 2.0%). The seven day average number of molecular tests per day is 18,455.3 compared to 14,052.7 last week (up 31.3%) and 20,519.4 two weeks ago (down 10.1%). The seven day average percentage of tests coming back positive per day is 2.0% compared to 2.1% last week and 1.7% two weeks ago. (The above averages are calculated from today's raw data download.)

Of the Commonwealth's four "key metrics" listed on page 2 of the report, the seven-day weighted average positive test rate is 0.8%, 0% above the lowest observed value of 0.8% on September 19. The three-day average number of COVID-19 patients in hospital is 355, 17% above the lowest observed value of 302 on August 29. The number of hospitals using surge capacity is 2, 2 above the lowest observed value of 0 on September 5. The three-day average number of COVID-19 deaths is 16, 71% above the lowest observed value of 9 on September 7.

Day-to-day, deaths and cases are down; so are tests, but not by as much as cases, so the percent-positive ratio came down nicely. On the other hand, it's the weekend, which has tended to see downward trends day-to-day. The seven-day averages aren't nearly as encouraging, with cases continuing to climb from early this month, deaths starting to tick upward, and tests yet to catch up with a couple of weeks ago.

The town of Acton has yet to post an update today. As of the most recent report at 3:45PM on September 16, the town of Acton reported 202 cumulative cases of COVID-19 in town with 2 individuals in isolation, 179 recovered and 21 fatalities.
