Aug. 17th, 2020 04:18 pmAs of 4PM today, the Commonwealth of Massachusetts is reporting 4 newly reported confirmed deaths (7 less than yesterday - down 63.6%) for a total of 8,611 deaths, 213 newly reported confirmed cases (90 less than yesterday - down 29.7%) for a total of 114,611 cases, and 14,946 new patients tested by molecular tests (521 less than yesterday - down 3.4%) for a total of 1,456,112 individuals tested, with a total of 1,929,891 molecular tests administered to date. The ratio of newly confirmed cases to individuals tested by molecular test is 1.4%, compared to 2.0% yesterday. The state also reported 253 patients tested by antibody tests (162 less than yesterday - down 39.0%) for a total of 105,540 and 321 patients tested by antigen tests (1,863 less than yesterday - down 85.3%) for a total of 69,018.
The seven day average number of newly confirmed cases per day is 276.9 compared to 296.9 last week (down 6.7%) and 290.4 two weeks ago (down 4.7%). The seven day average number of newly confirmed deaths per day is 13.1 compared to 13.1 last week and 15.7 two weeks ago (down 16.4%). The seven day average number of molecular tests per day is 19,068.3 compared to 14,834.9 last week (up 28.5%) and 13,571.0 two weeks ago (up 40.5%). The seven day average percentage of tests coming back positive per day is 1.5% compared to 2.0% last week and 2.1% two weeks ago. (The above averages are calculated from today's raw data download.)
Good news on the day-by-day front, but it's Monday and that tends to make for lower case and death counts by virtue of folks not always reporting on the weekend. The seven-day averages are also looking good, as are the "key metrics" on page 2.
And in other hopeful news, we're now seeing indications that even mild COVID-19 infections could cause strong, lasting immunity (which bodes well for vaccine effectiveness):

Frankly, I'd be okay at this point with a vaccine that needed an annual booster shot. Long-term immunity? Sign me up!
As of 3:30PM today, the town of Acton is reporting 189 cumulative cases of COVID-19 in town with 3 individuals in isolation, 165 recovered and 21 fatalities; that's two new cases and three persons recovered since the last update on August 10. No new deaths, which is always good to hear.
