As of 4PM today, the Commonwealth of Massachusetts is reporting 21 newly reported confirmed deaths (3 more than yesterday) for a total of 8,568 deaths, 319 newly reported confirmed cases (90 more than yesterday) for a total of 113,517 cases, and 27,879 new patients tested by molecular tests (12,186 more than yesterday) for a total of 1,381,178 individuals tested, with a total of 1,821,031 molecular tests administered to date. The ratio of newly confirmed cases to individuals tested by molecular test is 1.1%, compared to 1.5% yesterday.

The seven day average number of newly confirmed cases per day is 283.4 compared to 304.7 last week and 245.3 two weeks ago. The seven day average number of newly confirmed deaths per day is 14.0 compared to 13.6 last week and 15.7 two weeks ago. The seven day average number of molecular tests per day is 16,900.1 compared to 14,489.0 last week and 11,738.0 two weeks ago. The seven day average percentage of tests coming back positive per day is 1.7% compared to 2.1% last week and 2.1% two weeks ago. (The above averages are calculated from today's raw data download.)

Another mixed bag on the day-to-day numbers; both deaths and cases are up, and neither of those is good news. However, the tests are way up (77% high more tests!), which brings the percent-positive ratio way down, and those are both very much good news. The longer-term trends are also a mixed bag (cases down from the prior week but up from two weeks ago; deaths up from prior week and down from two weeks ago). And of the state's four "key metrics", the two hospital-related ones (three-day average number of COVID-19 patients in hospital and number of hospitals using surge capacity) have both been trending upward since August 9.

The town of Acton has yet to post an update today. As of the most recent report at 10:45AM on August 10, the town of Acton reported 187 cumulative cases of COVID-19 in town with 4 individuals in isolation, 162 recovered and 21 fatalities.
