Local COVID-19 updates
Aug. 9th, 2020 05:36 pmAs of 4PM today, the Commonwealth of Massachusetts is reporting 14 newly reported confirmed deaths (for a total of 8,514), 286 newly reported confirmed cases (for a total of 112,459), and 17,152 new patients tested by molecular tests (for a total of 1,311,358), with a total of 1,723,320 molecular tests administered to date. The ratio of newly confirmed cases to individuals tested by molecular test is 1.7%. The state also reported zero newly reported probable deaths (for a total of 221), 43 newly reported probable cases (for a total of 8,581), and 346 patients tested by antibody tests (for a total of 101,485). Combining the confirmed and probable numbers gives 14 new deaths (for a total of 8,735) and 329 new cases (for a total of 121,040).
The seven day average number of newly confirmed cases per day is 289.9 compared to 292.9 last week and 214.0 two weeks ago. The seven day average number of newly confirmed deaths per day is 13.9 compared to 15.3 last week and 13.9 two weeks ago. The seven day average number of molecular tests per day is 14,978.0 compared to 13,287.1 last week and 11,374.1 two weeks ago. The seven day average percentage of tests coming back positive per day is 1.9% compared to 2.2% last week and 1.9% two weeks ago. (The above averages are calculated from today's raw data download.)
On a day-by-day basis, the case numbers are down while the molecular test numbers are up; this brings the percent-positive ratio down, which is great news. On the other hand, deaths ticked up slightly, which isn't great news. The seven-day averages of cases, deaths and percent-positive are all down from a week ago, which is good; on that proverbial other hand, it's the weekend, and counts have a bad habit of jumping up come Tuesday or Wednesday. We shall see.
The town of Acton has yet to post an update today. As of the most recent report at 3PM on July 28,the town reported 183 cumulative cases of COVID-19 in Acton with 4 individuals in isolation, 158 recovered and 21 fatalities.
