As of 4PM today, the Commonwealth of Massachusetts is reporting 12 newly reported confirmed deaths (for a total of 8,291), 210 newly reported confirmed cases (for a total of 108,107), and 11,330 new patients tested by molecular tests (for a total of 1,103,722), with a total of 1,425,973 molecular tests administered to date. The ratio of newly confirmed cases to individuals tested by molecular test is 1.9%. The state also reported zero newly reported probable deaths (for a total of 219), 73 newly reported probable cases (for a total of 7,161), and 2,187 patients tested by antibody tests (for a total of 91,756). Combining the confirmed and probable numbers gives 12 new deaths (for a total of 8,510) and 283 new cases (for a total of 115,268).

Deaths and cases both down slightly today, which is good; but tests were down significantly, and the day's percent-positive rate is up, which is never good. So is the seven-day average of positive molecular test rate - in today's page 2, that's showing a five-day upward trend, and that isn't good at all. Yes, it's still at a very low level compared to three months ago, or compared to today's rates for states like Florida (19.0%) or Arizona (24.7%) - but any trend going up in Massachusetts is by definition bad news.

Back in April, I noted that the Appalachian Mountain Club hut system had been closed for the season due to COVID-19. Now, the Boston Globe is reporting on some of the impacts of the hut system closure:
