Local (and not-so-local) COVID-19 updates
Jun. 10th, 2020 08:40 pmAs of 4PM today, the Commonwealth of Massachusetts is reporting 45 newly reported confirmed COVID-19 deaths (for a total of 7,300 confirmed deaths), 203 newly reported confirmed cases (for a total of 100,158) and 10,034 new patients tested by molecular tests (for a total of 668,092). The ratio of newly confirmed cases to molecular test results is 2.0%. The state reported 1 probable deaths (for a total of 154), 64 newly reported probable cases (for a total of 3,998), and 896 patients tested by antibody tests (for a total of53,040). In total, the state reported 68 new deaths (for a total of 7,152) and 429 new cases (for a total of 101,592).
I'm not happy that the number of deaths is up (substantially) and the number of confirmed cases is up (slightly) from yesterday, but the longer-term trends continue in the right direction - and compared to last Wednesday, these numbers are all substantially better. Still, the day that the statewide confirmed case count passes 100,000 is not a day for celebration.
The state also released its Weekly COVID-19 Public Health Report. My town of Acton is listed as having 154 confirmed cases (for a rate of 648.91 cases per 100k population) and 1,470 persons tested (for a rate of 6194.11 persons tested per 100k population), for a "percent positivity" of 10.48%. The corresponding statewide numbers are 100,158 cases (1437.65 cases per 100k), 668,092 persons tested (9,589.67 persons tested per 100k), and 15.00% positive tests.
Massachusetts has been hit hard by this virus compared to most other states; however, there's now a whole bunch of states with dramatically rising case and hospitalization counts:

As of 11:30AM today, the town of Acton is reporting 171 cumulative cases with 7 individuals in isolation, 143 persons recovered and 21 fatalities. No new cases, no new deaths, and twenty-three more people recovered; now that's good news.
