Good news:

• Rumors of my demise are greatly exaggerated.


• My mother's recent surgery went well.


• The sixth Harry Potter book is a great read.

Not-so-good news:

• I am once again in the search for contract work.


• One of the members of my church's choir died a couple of weeks back.


• Last week was the one-year anniversary of my grandmother's death.

Really ugly news:

• Hurricane Katrina appears ready to convert a large chunk of the Gulf Coast into salt mud.
