One of the things I've been doing to improve my health is riding my old beater bicycle to the post office on a near-daily basis. It saves a bit of gasoline, lets me check the PO box and run any other postage-type errands, and gets me some exercise.

Yesterday, though, I almost ran over a squirrel. On my bike.

That, frankly, was weird. I'm more or less used to having suicidal rodents - squirrels, chipmunks, etc. - try and beat my car across the road. This was the first time I can recall that the kamikaze squirrel tried to beat the bicycle across. Luckily, for both the squirrel and myself, I was able to slow down enough for it to pass safely. I'm not sure what hitting a squirrel with my bike would have done to the bike, or my balance, and am glad not to have found out.

I was reminded of this when [livejournal.com profile] kightp went and linked to a flippin' squirrel name generator. (I apparently am "Furry Crazy Whiskers" - which makes some amount of sense, given my beard.)
