Local COVID-19 updates

As of 4PM this afternoon, the Commonwealth of Massachusetts is reporting four more deaths from COVID-19 (for a total of 48 to date), 698 new cases (for a total of 4955) and 4,017 more persons tested (for a total of 39066).

I think it's probably too soon to leap to conclusions, but I do find it a bit comforting that the state's death rate has been dropping the last few days - ten deaths each on Thursday and Friday, nine deaths on Saturday, and four today. We're fifteen days out from Governor Baker's order closing school buildings and prohibiting on-premises consumption at restaurants, and six days out from his order closing "bricks and mortar" locations for "non-essential" businesses. The self-isolation sucks, but if it means we keep our hospitals from collapsing, it'll be worth it.

My town did not put out an update today; as of yesterday, it is still reporting one confirmed case.
