Writing a speech without knowing who'll give it

Apparently, Sarah Palin's acceptance speech tonight was written before the speechwriters even knew that she would be the VP nominee. At least, according to the Washington Post:
Not anticipating that McCain would choose a woman as his running mate, the speech that was prepared in advance was "very masculine," according to campaign manager Rick Davis, and "we had to start from scratch."
I really was hoping to learn something about Palin tonight from her speech. Sigh.
